1 star lost for not being more clear on the cover that this book was ghost written. The only place the ghost writer's name is mentioned is in the acknowledgements and even there, it's not super clear what she did for the book. And I think that's wrong, it would have been better to put something like "written by Kathleen McGurl with assistance or inspiration from Millie Bobby Brown"

I really enjoyed this novel, though it was absolutely heartbreaking in a million ways. While the characters weren't super developed, what shone through the narrative was the anxiety and overall tone that the war had on the folks at home during that time. Even though the ending seemed a little too perfect for the overall story, I was happy for the characters in the end. One note I have about this book is that I wish that it was a little more transparent about the fact that Millie Bobby Brown didn't actually write this. She worked in collaboration with a host writer. It's a shame that the writer didn't get her name on the cover or an acknowledgments section.

This book was just ok for me. It was written in third person which I don't love. I felt like the plot wasn't my favorite either and it didn't really have a point. By the end everyone I was rooting for somehow died and by the end of it the whole story didn't seem real and out of a war time fairy tale.

i’m actually not going to give this a rating because I feel it’s more complicated than that. the writing was very simple and the plot really predictable, but I really loved the idea of the book overall and it was a bit emotional. I honestly would advise anyone to read this purely as a historical fiction and not look at the author or the ghostwriter or anything.
