I did enjoy this book, but I feel it could have been written better, it felt as if the sex was the main plot point, and it had an anti-climactic ending.  I didn’t really gain anything from reading it. If you are a lover of Hades and Persophone retellings, you will probably like this. Sure, it's not the worst book, but I probably won't be suggesting this to someone, unless they like smutty books. For a book that has reviews for being very sexy, and kinky, it's pretty tame.

Not the best retelling of Hades and Persephone. It seemed like the story was trying to be deeper than the typical romance plot but never actually achieved depth. It came off like a really good but cheap mafia romance.

Hades’ backstory was okay to begin with, but didn’t give enough reason for his drive and hatred. The conclusion of it wasn’t that great either. Unfortunately, his character was the most built out of the cast. Persephone in this book is interesting with her ability to “turn on” her PR facade and her quips were pretty funny. For everyone else, you can tell the author is trying to “save” their backstories for the next book so they always feel like you’re missing something—because we are.

At best this is a typical flimsy romance story, with Greek gods as an almost fanfic-like fill-in. There are better retellings if you’re interested in Greek Mythology or fantasy.

The “A Touch of Darkness” series by Scarlett St Clair has more of the traditional background for Hades and Persephone. Fair warning, her Persephone is young, brash, and can be annoyingly immature because of her sheltered upbringing.

A simple but modern, v. hot, engaging, and satisfying retelling of the Hades/Persephone myth with the help of the ever-effective fake dating trope. Even though this book skews toward indulgent and also violent at times, I really appreciated the sensitivity it brought to concepts of BDSM. It is worth noting that none of the violence is sexual in nature and, in one part where blurring that line becomes a possibility, the involved partners clearly communicate their enthusiastic consent to hurting so good, in an agreed-upon way. I look forward to exploring the rest of Olympus, as portrayed by Ms. Robert.

Interesting modern twist on Greek mythology. There were some details left out of the world building that are bugging me a little bit but nothing I'd say that ruins the story. Interesting concept and enjoyable.

As for the scenes, it is the very definition of "consent is sexy". It is a little heavy on the kink so maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but it is hands down the best portrayal I've seen of a healthy BDSM relationship.

Overall, probably one of my favorite smut books. Looking forward to the next one.
