This book was pretty good. At first I didnt like Liz at all, but she and Lord Barton both grew on me. Ultimately, I think the book was too much of a historical fiction and too little of a romance for my taste, but for those who prefer historical fiction to romance this is a pretty good book.

Good characters, decent plot, a bit predictable.

My favorite part of this book had to be the research. Jen always does a fantastic job with that, and this one was especially interesting because you got to experience 1800 England and America, plus life on a boat! It was a very unique and creative storyline, and I really enjoyed that.

Liz was a wonderful character. She was steadfast in her convictions and just a very genuine person. But she was also flawed and relatable. It was fun to see her attempts at being a servant, and as the reader you totally cheer for her with all her little and big wins. So many of the secondary characters were SO well developed as well. I particularly liked the preacher and Liz's fellow servants.

Lord Barton was a well-made character, but he was also the only part of the book that I didn't LOVE. He was likeable, and had some really great moments, but he also made some really dumb choices that drove me crazy! For that reason, he was more relatable, but I also felt like he didn't totally deserve Liz ;)

Another great one from Jen, I'll definitely be reading more of hers!

I enjoyed this story of a titled Lady who runs away from an unwanted engagement to American and becomes a servant. Enjoyed the information on Philadelphia in the early 1800s... touched on themes of slavery with couple of nonfictional characters, Preacher Richard Allen & his wife Sarah who were African Americans who worked tirelessly to abolish slavery. They helped free slaves as part of the Underground Railroad which was not in this book. I liked how the author related how women really had no say in their own lives & at times were basically married off to the highest bidder just like African Americans. It was a fun quick romance.

His Lady in Hiding is a regency adventure about what a woman will do to escape her repulsive future, ultimately uncovering secrets about her past. The most fun and refreshing thing about this story is that it doesn't take place in London society, but rather a sea voyage to the colonies in America. I always tend to like forbidden romances and this is definitely that. Two people who find themselves thrown together by literal turbulence and then find themselves falling for each other day by day with little measure of power to do anything about it.

I liked Liz's spirit and her determination to measure up to the duties equal to a great housekeeper despite her lack of experience and the proximity it gives her to Lord Barton. Her indomitable will drives the book, always seeming to know what she wants. The only things I was a little bugged about was that Barton seemed to drag his feet on his stance in their relationship and I just wanted him to show a little more bravery and loyalty in declaring his feelings and attentions to her. Such a fun way to present a romance with a definite clashing of both wit and wills!

This story follows Lady Elizabeth Davenport who is running from an unwanted engagement and ends up on a ship to America to become a housekeeper. She befriends Lord Barton on the voyage without either of them knowing that he would soon be her employer.

I enjoyed this story premise and the funny situations it brought about for Lady Elizabeth and Lord Barton.
I loved Elizabeth’s courage and determination and I enjoyed watching Lord Barton fight his feelings for his new housekeeper. He made mistakes here or there but I like how real that made him.
The villain, Lord Pinweather, was written so well that he made my skin crawl anytime he entered a scene.

Adventure, intrigue and clean romance make for a very entertaining read in this historical romance.

Fine when you have nothing better to read

The epitome of "meh"... Fine when you have nothing better to read and just want to kill somentime. Everything felt forced.

This book took me on a wonderful adventure with so many unexpected twists and turns. I loved Liz's adventurous spirit and tenacity. The plot was unlike any historical romance I have read, which was delightful and refreshing. A perfect read to distract me from quarantine!
