HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY!!!

Impresionante.

GRACIAS NETGALLEY

3.5/5: I really enjoyed this book when I picked it up, though I wasn’t always compelled. I also fucking love tennis and could relate to the relationship between Carrie and her dad, made me think of my papa coaching me through high school. But if you don’t like tennis I honestly don’t recommend - very sports heavy!

This was my first TJR, and I absolutely loved it. Carrie wasn’t easy to love at times, in fact, sometimes I couldn’t stand her, but I always found myself rooting for her at every match. I am also a huge Jav fan. I enjoyed the 90’s references too (I feel like Carrie and princess Diana could have been bffs). I also loved how much I learned about tennis from this book, it honestly makes me wish I learned to play (but I’m so unauthentic so it would be a hot mess). I gave this five stars because I couldn’t put it down. This book makes me think of what Serena Williams could be feeling as she goes through a similar thing, and I think she would enjoy and relate to this book.

3.5. This one was such an easy read. TJR just knows how to tell a story. I’m not a tennis gal, so I think it missed the mark for me in that regard, but it didn’t take away from the overall plot in any way. The main character wasn’t overly likeable, but maybe the point was that she wasn’t supposed to be. It definitely made me ask myself some good questions about what makes me deem a person “likeable.” There were adjacent paradigms in this story that I think will pose some good reflections for readers who take the time to do so. I just didn’t connect with it or feel overly emotionally moved, but it was a good story with relevant content. Not my fav from TJR, but that’s a high mark to meet. Definitely worth a read!

”You can change, Just because you want to.”
Once again, this is one of the best books I’ve read. Her writing is so effortlessly perfect, captivating, meaningful, and impactful that you can not put it down. I mean look at me, a person who has never ever cared about anything sports related in their entire life, not only read this book revolving around tennis, but actually ENJOYED it. Now that’s amazing. I still don’t know what half of the tennis terms in the book mean but that’s not the point.
I believe Carrie would really enjoy “The Man” by Taylor Swift, and also appreciate “Marjorie”.
Also, the little of sprinkle of romance with *you know you* was so perfect, and just enough as to not take away from the main, other important topics touched in the novel. I lost it over ”You are completely insufferable, and I can’t stop thinking about you”, TELL ME this is not an exact thing Cardan would say to Jude

Devoured this in one day. I love Taylor Jenkins Reid’s stories, and it makes you feel like she was actually live in these lives. The pacing was great, the story was interesting, and the character development made this book hard to put down.
