I had no real expectations about this book. I knew the general story, and the character's names but didn't understand what I was going to read. It's a really good book. The writing is crisp and fun, the characters are jovial and get into all sorts of situations. There's both a unique feel to it in a classic and timeless feel to it. I'm glad I read it and I'm glad that it is something that I hadn't read before, cuz I don't know that I would have appreciated the writing or the swashbuckling nature.

Didn't make it past the first few pages. The language is too hard for me.

This is such a fun novel, full of political intrigue yet surprisingly lighthearted. The protagonist, d'Artagnan, is a flawed character but certainly an entertaining one. You can't help but feel that he's kind of an idiot and yet at the same time he also appears to be quite cunning.

My one gripe with The Three Musketeers is that it easily could have been about 200 pages shorter, which is why I won't rate it 5 stars. The latter half of the book could have been condensed in my opinion. However, I suppose this is probably because the story was originally published in serial format. Dumas would have had a different view on the length than a modern reader would have. Overall, I'd recommend this novel, particularly the Pevear translation.
