Kind of nice, but non of the characters got me excited and that’s the main interest for me. Still an interesting story and I liked it.

Charming but not captivating

Zoe and her aunt seem like a lovely pair of people. But the lack of any real drama in the novel left me wanting.

I would sum it up as extremely inoffensive. The “crime” was tame for the cozy mystery genre and even the worst of the characters had their behavior excused.

There are no regrets about spending time with this novel but I think I’ll leave Everlasting as is.

Zoe left Everlasting (and her ex) in her rear view mirror. She wanted the big city, big career and nothing, not even her love for Dane, was getting in her way.

Fast forward a few years and the big career is only one promotion away but when her aunt Sapphire hurts herself in a fall, she finds herself back in Everlasting. She finds Dane doing the renovations to her aunts Lighthouse home and all those pesky feelings for him come rushing right back!

Add in a friendly ghost, Cornelius, in a weird state of dress, and a small town filled with cooky residents and you have yourself a winner! Zoe and Dane are really lovely and I loved all the matchmaking from Sapphire and Everlasting itself! The cats are also scene stealers!

I can't wait to see what happens to the residents next!

The mystery itself was a little shallow but honestly, it was an enjoyable read just for the characters and the town/world.

I love the fact that this town has lots of unique characters and that we get to meet then one or two at a time. I really like Zoe and Sapphire. Cornelius is a hoot and Dane is a sweet heart. The mystery was great and I enjoyed the ending. All in all a very good read.

I enjoyed this cozy paranormal mystery with romance on the side. The characters were lovable (except the "bad guys" of course). It's a good foundation for the "Happily Everlasting" setting, providing plenty of lore.
It's hard to choose my favorite aspect of the book. I love the view from the lighthouse! I won't tell the others to avoid spoilers.
My least favorite part of the book is a few parts that were sloppy and I wish the author or an editor had cleaned them up. It didn't change the value of the story, but kinda took me out of the narrative.

Bottom line - cute, easy to read cozy paranormal mystery!

Details - This is a new to me author, but I read Kristen Painter (who is one of the other authors in this series) so I had reasonably high expectations. I'd also known about the series for a while but I read by mood and just hadn't been in the mood for a cozy mystery until yesterday. I made a good choice and found it to be a fun read which didn't disappoint! The magical town is a character unto itself and the addition of cats and a half-dressed ghost meant I flew through the book. I also like romance so was glad to see that subplot. The writing is smooth, the action flows, and the characters are likeable.

If you're a fan of Kristen Painter's Nocturne Falls series, I'd suggest you give this series and this author a try!
