Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon

I needed more time on the Libby library loan but there were other holds so I got back in the queue...now it's been long enough I've forgotten too much.

I will pick it back up some other time.

Know Your Station starts off a little dry but builds to a wallop of an ending. I would have liked to get to the twist sooner because I'd already figured out the whodunit. This is one of my least fave Sarah Gailey stories but I'd rather be reading their work than many others so there eventually has to be something I vibe with less. But the ending brought it all together, so I'm not mad at it.

Another great world created by K. O'Neill with empathetic leads who learn how to care more for each other in community. Super cute with a powerful message.

P. Djèlí Clark makes great books. I adore that this novella is ultimately a "good for her" story. An undead assassin and a girl magickally plucked from time team up to make sense of things. Endlessly enjoyable and I experienced glee from the twists and turns. Highly recommended, much like the rest of Clark's work, but this is my favorite of his so far.

This book brings us into 6 months of being inside Zoe's head and experiencing life as it is. The narrative style and structure are unusual and unique. Well worth checking out if you are into autobiographical comics.

This is a wonderfully paced spaceship horror novella. It's not reinventing hostile aliens in a spaceship but it's a story that gallops at a clip that propells the experience. Also, the motives of the plot that unfurl near the end are so deliciously bleak.

I would like to read whatever Ness Brown does next.

I have yet to read a V. Castro book that I haven't adored. This one is no exception: queer witch rage that includes ripping out hearts of those who wronged her. Sign me up! Sure, this story has like 3 or 4 endings, but now I'm sad that it's over.

Keezy Young, in a few pages, has provided the most relatable and honest discussion of bipolar and mania. Their authenticity is inspiring: a major manic episode disabled me in 2020 and I've never been the same. Medication does what it can, but it doesn't solve bipolar. We learn to live with it...and Sunflowers shows how that can be like. Beautiful and essential.

FERAL is an absolutely wild new horror comic from the creators of Stray Dogs. I used to read animal protagonist novels as a kid, and this brings that experience back in a big way. I look forward to reading volume 2!

This volume of Strays is devastating and perfect, sharing multiple perspectives that enrich the original story and your heart breaks for each one of the dogs. So intense and original, Dog Days transcends the series.
