AGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! just such a great finale to an amazing series. this book never fails to make me emotional. i laughed and i cried and i kept smiling like a complete idiot experiencing the percabeth moments allll over again (and that underwater kiss still gave me the same amount of buzz as when i first read it!!! AHHHHH). and of course, luke's character arc and his relationship with annabeth and thalia (although i wish it was fleshed out a bit more, i know it's a middle school novel, so i shouldn't expect much) never fail to make me an emotional sap UGHHHH!!! i'm super excited to see how the tv series is gonna develop these books and i just know they are not gonna disappoint! GOD, and that prophecy at the end is making me really want to reread heroes of olympus.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
4.5
what a CLASSIC. i figured a reread was long overdue, with the show coming out and all, and it was just as good as i remembered it. there were moments when i teared up just from the overwhelming nostalgia and how much this series meant to me as a child. percy jackson, you will always have a special place in my heart <3… onto the next book!!
it was interesting to learn about how snow came to be the vicious, cruel tyrant that he is in the hunger games and to explore the similarities between katniss and lucy gray. villain origin stories are quite compelling. however, i feel like a couple of parts in the book were unnecessarily dragged out; the author still could have gotten the story across with a lower page count. tbh, i only wanted to read this because i’m watching the movie tomorrow, and i wanted to know what happens in the book so i can find similarities and differences between the two. that being said, i think that’s why i didn’t really form attachments to any of the characters in this book. i do love the little easter eggs throughout the book, i got so excited every time i spotted one!
AHHHHH!!!!!! madeline miller is a god. i always enjoy her retellings of mythologies and i feel that she does a good job at developing them in her own unique way! i loved how she characterized circe as she took us along her journey of self discovery and empowerment, and i could feel myself relating to certain aspects of circe throughout the story. that last chapter was honestly just soooo *chef’s kiss* everything about it was the perfect way to end off circe’s arc, in my opinion. i’m really looking forward to her next retelling if she decides to release one!
my god… you can always trust r.f. kuang to come out with a masterpiece every time. i enjoyed every page of this book, from the world-building to the characterization to the commentary. it is just. so incredible i am at a loss for words.
