The Awakening by L.J. Smith

Started reading this book because I loved the TV show, but I was extremely disappointed with it. Absolutely hated Elena’s character, who I didn’t care much for on the TV show, but she is WAY worse in the book! Absolutely dreadful read and will NOT continue the series! Spare your time and pick up a different book. (:
Frankenstein: The 1818 Text by Mary Shelley

So, I was required to read Frankenstein in high school, but didn’t remember much. Recently, my sister and I have read a few books with references to the original Frankenstein story so we decided to read Frankenstein together for our March read. There were so many things about this book that were not enjoyable to me. I knew the writing would be hard for me to get through, so with that in mind, I still tried to enjoy this book. The pages are miserable to read through!! Victor having Elizabeth as a love interest is just plain strange. All of the male characters are feminine. The ending wasn’t satisfying. Suffice to say, I did not enjoy Frankenstein even in the slightest, but I am glad I gave it a fair shot and do not regret reading. Classics are always worth the read.

Got this book from my Oma. It is not really my type of book, but I did enjoy it. The story is a bit bland… felt like I was being told a story on all of Alex’s most important moments. This book is a story… telling you about Alex and her life… it does not show you anything, making it less fun to read. Anyways, didn’t bother me although I know others might not like that. I did enjoy this read.

Despite the weird writing style in this book, I did really enjoy it. I felt like I was able to really get to know Juliette and how she felt in all different chapters of her life. The ending left me excited for her future and wanting more from the series. I recommend this book, but be patient with the writing style. The repetitions, crossed out sentences, run on sentences, etc. do fade away as the book goes on. It is important to remember that Juliette has been locked away from others for almost a year, unable to speak to anyone besides herself. The book starts with her hating herself and her “gift” or “power” and the writing style helps the reader to understand just how broken Juliette is. Again, this fades away as Juliette finds herself and begins to embrace her gift. It is a beautiful thing to read and see come to life in your mind. Give it a chance and be patient with the writing. (:
I also would like to add that this book is a super easy and quick read. Both my sister and I finished it within a week.
