while I’m giving this book a 3.75, that’s not to say it wasn’t an enjoyable read. I really liked the pace, I liked that it was simple enough to understand, and yet just mysterious enough for me to be thrilled by. I also thought a lot of the “discovering” and plot twists were well done. however, as many other people have stated, it is like rampant with really weird views and details on women?? I mean it was written in 1991 but like for example, there’s a certain part in the book that was about Sadako that genuinely made me sigh. I love the story itself it’s very interesting and for the time it was certainly a new plot concept, I just wish stuff like that had been left out
I ended up actually really enjoying this book! for a second there I thought I was veering in the opposite direction but the ending truly did it for me!! the big reveal was predictable in a way, but Camille’s epilogue is what made me rate this book so highly honestly, I also just love Flynn’s writing style
wow, what can I really say other than wow. this book was so stunning and so emotional, literally JUST finished reading it. I feel everything for miranda; from fear, to joy, to sympathy, and I really can not help but love her and feel for her in the end. really this book is a treasure
gahhhhh I love this book so much I don’t care, used to be one of my faves and it still stands as a story that is so darkly relatable and complex. girlhood and womanhood are so sad at times and this book really reflects that. I really do hold this book dear to my heart!
this book was so beautiful, heart breaking, intense, tragic. it did such a good job of capturing girlhood but from such a horrifyingly sad lens, I also really loved the ending
honestly, this book was just such an easy fun read, nothing more nothing less! my first intro to the horror genre for novels and it was an enjoyable read in my eyes. again, not a challenging book, everything is laid out before you, but I oddly enough liked that for the world building. the descriptions are also very well done to me, I could see everything described (some may say unfortunately but it was fun)
legitimately, wow. firstly, absolutely stunning writing. I really enjoyed the layout of this book as well, I think the story benefits from it heavily. I found myself being so frustrated with our main character, and then the middle-end of the book I held nothing but empathy. secondly, it is such a dark and nasty subject, yet the perspective/reflection this book takes is SO unique. I rarely see it being done in media
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
3.0
there is a lot I could say about this book but the main thing I will say is, before reading, be aware that this book takes a HEAVILY religious Christian perspective. that is really not my thing whatsoever. so the fact I was nearly at the end of the book, then finally being hit directly in the face with it in a not at all subtle way, was very very frustrating. the writing and world building was stunning and enthralling. however, the end really really ruined it for me. still could possibly recommend but eh
