A great primer that introduces the reader to the Hebrew Bible from the standpoint of a Jewish Scholar of Higher Criticism. You do not have to have read the Hebrew Bible before as Brettler walks you through an abridged selection of the Hebrew Bible that wets the readers interest. I highly recommend this book. 4.75 out of 5 ⭐️

Picking up from the last volume Marshall of Starlight Beacon Avar Kriss has formed an alliance with the Hutt Cartel to battle the threat of the Drengir in the frontier. All while Keeve Trennis is dealing with the aftermath of going into the hive mind of the Drengir. This volume happens at the same time as the novel The Rising Storm and explains what Avar was doing during the attack on Valo. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

In this series we follow newly Knighted Keeve Trennis and her former Master Sskeer as the they hot on the trail of a mysterious murder of a Hutt in Republic space. My biggest criticism is this series requires prerequisite reading mostly in the books of phase 1 as this follow them and references all of them: Light of the Jedi, A Test of Courage, and Into the Dark. As such this is not a good starting place for the High Republic. However we follow fantastic characters and the series is going in an interesting direction.  3.75/5 ⭐️

A History of the Bible: The Book and Its Faiths by John Barton

John Barton brilliantly brings the insights of critical biblical studies to a mass audience for both religious and non-religious readers. Barton walks through the writing/composition and canonization process of Hebrew Bible and New Testament texts before turning to look at their interpretation throughout the ages. Barton shows how the Bible does not clearly map unto religious belief and practice of Judaism and Christianity cleanly. Showing how both religions relate and engage with the Bible in more complex ways. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
