Have been hearing good things about Lucifer for a while now and saw the TV series was getting some notice so thought it about time I saw what it was about.
Glad I did because this is good, really good in fact. Very clever and very well written. Some nice twists and tweaks on Judaeo Christian theology and on Milton and Dante. Though occasionally a little overly complex and prone to pull the odd rabbit out of the hat plot wise it has left me definately wanting to read more.

I’m genuinely impressed by this book. I don’t know what I went in expecting but it perhaps wasn’t exactly this.

Here are excerpts of comments I made to friends after I finished it:
“I didn’t expect everything to come together as completely as it did. My head is spinning.” (Admittedly I finished reading this on a 27 C day sitting by the Hudson river waterfront so that may have been the sun)
“My toxic trait is I wish the frontal nudity shots had a penis. And then I wish that penis had been in me.” (Sorry I’m attracted to a devil with a devil-may-care attitude?)
“The show Lucifer leads more with his penis. This is not like that. Just one brief kiss and one quickly interrupted mock seduction by a beautiful woman.” (She turned out to be a murderous demon, long story)
“This Lucifer is more… beyond mortality. I don’t mean immortal.”

Disclaimer: This has some dark themes. There was a
Spoilerscene of homophobic violence set against a backdrop of fascist groups
. Not a single scene or character or arc is wasted within the book so I won’t say it was gratuitous, but it was still uncomfortable. There is a lot of death in this book. The book is also not “funny”. It’s entertaining, yes, but it involves elaborate serious topics treated as such feat. Lucifer’s trademark wit and smarts.

I was fairly surprised at how long it took me to read this. Information and panels are quite densely packed and it felt very much like reading a “real book”. But completely 100% worth the higher-than-average-graphic-novel-effort that it required. I highly highly recommend.

Surprisingly average. Most of the stories in which Lucifer didn’t play that big of a part were much more entertaining than the stories with him as the main character.

Picked the volume up solely because I saw it and thought "Oh! Look! The depiction looks like the one in Gaiman's Sandman!" At closer inspection, I discovered it was!

Of course, this spinoff of a Sandman character is interesting, because it is none other than Lucifer, Prince of Hell and yadda yadda yadda. Only he's given up the whole Underworld business and has retired from the dominion of devilry. In fact, in Mike Carey's depiction, the Lightbringer is the owner of the Lux, a bar in Los Angeles run by his lesser demon servant, Mazikeen. There's more to say about the fallen angel, but I'll stop there, because it really takes reading the story to get what's happening next.

I actually liked the compilation (which I think encompassed a number of volumes, 3-4?). Some personal favorites were the chapters in the Japanese version of the afterlife. But the last few chapters were great too, filled with myths and a delving into angelology.

And honestly, it was difficult NOT to like Lucifer Morningstar.

I read Sandman and loved it. Lucifer is a spin off of the series.

Since am not a major comic book junkie, I am not one to decide on the art and prints. The question is - have you seen the TV show 'Lucifer'? Well, if you have and -
a) Loved it - then do read this comic too because it's completely different from the show so far.
b) Hated it - well read it! It's DIFFERENT! 😁

The comics is dark (well it's Vertigo after all) and I loved it.
Supernatural + dark =

The show is like candy land compared to the comics. Lucifer in the comic is cold, calculative, ruthless and committed in his hatred for heaven. He doesn't interfere unless it doesn't serve any purpose.
Mazikeen is loyal and badass. Similar to the show but more cold and ruthless. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to seek it.
Amenadiel on the other hand is completely different too. Completely different from the show. He's decisive, relentless and no "Lucy" calling crap in this comics. Nah uh.
A MUST READ if you love fantasy, supernatural, blood and gore and not to mention a self obsessed, cold and daunting character.

Pretty good. Not as good as Sandman, where this particular portrayal of Lucifer originated, but then again what is? The moral of the story seems to be don't fuck with the devil.

Couldn't finish it. Managed to make it almost 3/4 of the way through before I called it quits. I love the Netflix show, its lighthearted and add enough humor to balance the serious stuff. The comics are just dark and morose.
