This is my first book I have read by Elise Sax and I have to say that I didn’t feel like I missed anything with this being the third book in this series, but I was missing out on Elise Sax. Her writing was amazing and spot on.

This book was just great, I loved everything about the crazy wonder world of matchmaking. This book had me Laughing out Loud more times than I can count. It had more comedy and suspense than romances but I found myself not minding it that much. It could have had more romances but that didn’t take away from the overall story. Elise did a great job with the characters, they are very well developed and kept me wanting to know more about them.

I will be reading the other two books as well as any other books by Elise Sax. I am giving this book 4 stars, and will be reading this book again.

I received this book as part of the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.

The good parts: there were moments that were laugh out loud funny and, despite the obvious issues with the pairing, there was some definite electricity in the scenes between Gladie and Spencer, even if the relationship certainly didn't unfold the way a standard romance does (which is what I originally thought this book was but it didn't turn out to be).

The bad: though I enjoyed the laugh out loud bits, I overall found the book a bit too madcap for my taste. There were moments that I felt just became a riff for the sake of being a riff rather than that they tied into anything. And I completely lost track of what the mystery was actually supposed to be thanks to the tangents.

All in all, I would be interested in reading more from this author -- when she's on a roll, she's on a roll -- but this book in itself didn't work for me.

Laugh out loud funny! This is the third hilarious installment in Elise Sax Matchmaker series and just as belly aching funny as the first two.
Grandma Zelda may be good at finding love matches but Gladie is better at finding trouble and dead bodies. She is really good at that. Gladie is finally settling in and finding a home and friends in Cannes. Sure she is an apprentice matchmaker with her own problems with men but she has a couple of good matches under her belt. She may actually be getting the hang of this until the competition moves in. Now comes trouble which is what Gladie knows best.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGally in return for a fair and honest review.

I'm a nerd. Most of my friends are nerds of one flavor or another. What I'm saying is, I know nerds. It is true that many nerds are socially awkward, part of the cause and effect circle of a subculture on the margins. Two years ago, I met an adorable dude at a game night who was wearing stone-washed jeans and a wolf t-shirt, and he lifted his hat and said, "Ma'am" when I introduced myself. Fine.

However...

Are you kidding me with this guy? Okay, nerd with gorgeous body? Yup, fine, been there. That was a good couple of months. Nerd who is a bit awkward about hitting on potential romantic and/or sexual partners? Absolutely. Too many to list. Nerd who says dorky things? Don't get me started.

But a nerd who responds to a mass accusation against him of multiple murders by saying blandly, "Don't hate me cuz you ain't me"? Ok, well, fine, maybe. Not much is off the table for my people when we get into an awkward contest. Still, though, it's a stretch. That line of dialogue was the nail in the coffin for me with respect to Det. Cumberbatch's character. He was like an emotionless puppet built by someone who didn't actually understand who he was, and it kept pushing me out of the narrative. This line jangled so badly for me that it has popped into my mind on occasion even over a week later. It's a shame, really, because the basic idea for the character was a good one.

All that having been said, I was still quite enjoying the series at this point. That was just a rough area for me.

Gladie (our heroine) is getting into the swing of things with the match-making business. Two matches now under her belt leave her with more confidence. Then the tides turn: a rival appears on the scene, she and many others are locked in a panic room, then a murder occurs. What else could go wrong?

And with that question, I neat set myself up for the 3-star review. It's not that Gladie and her adventures are uninteresting, but I just don't fit with the characters. Why Gladie is constantly blamed for two traffic accidents that were clearly not her fault is beyond me...and I don't find it amusing even though it apparently is. I also don't find humour in the main character being subjected to sexual harassment. Moreover, I really don't see how anyone could be attracted to someone who is directing that at them.

It's a shame: I do like the plot outline, but I don't like how it's executed. For personal taste alone, I'm going to leave this series behind.
