Long Winded which made it a tad bit of a slog, but still a well written piece of Grimdark.

I feel like I'm part of something that I was missing out on before finishing this book.

I don't really have too much to say other than I loved it. It never felt slow or too long, which is impressive considering its length. I haven't really delved into the realm of fantasy books very much because I usually end up putting them down after a few pages, but this was different. The writing was well done, the characters are great (even the evil ones), and the story was engrossing.

There were some parts that were kind of corny, like Arya wanting her brother to "muss her hair" (I swear I read that 3 or 4 times at different points in the novel), or some of the frankly cliche characterizations, but they are easy enough to overlook.

Great book!

Jon - my favorite. He is gonna do great things. Love ghost. Arya - obviously she is a child but she has some growing up to do. Excited to see what’s next. Sansa - she is a dummy and I don’t like her currently. Caitlyn - I also don’t like her and find her to be a b****. Bran - poor kid. I do think he will become a villain later. Ned - didn’t deserve to die. Was trying to be an upstanding guy. Tyrion - what a little weasel. Not a fan. Danny - obsessed.

I watched GOT before reading this book and I must say, I'm shocked how faithful season 1 was to the book. It felt like a scene for scene remake. Wonderful book, engaging story. Looking forward to the next!

Note on the Roy Dotrice audiobook: Mostly good but there were some weird pronunciation inconsistencies that I kept catching — sometimes he would say Winterfall rather than Winterfell, for example. I wish there had been some closer checks on that.

Even though this was a re-read for me (the first time being over 10 years ago in Estonian), I still really enjoyed it. George R. R. Martin has a way with words and writes captivatingly. Usually I don't like too many POV's, but in this case it is understandable why so many are needed to comprehend everything that is happening. Can't wait to get into the next one already.

I was so pulled into this world. I loved it, all the political intrigue and the large cast of characters
