I really liked where this story was being taken. I liked the fact that characters that started out 'bad' were just misunderstood.. I liked that Zoey's friend weren't always there for her (its just like real life guys). This series definitely has some very rough points .. but this novel was pretty decent compared to later books in this series. The potential was so high... and then it just simmered out ! :( sad llama !

This one is better than the first, I think. Though some of the writing continues to grate upon the nerves, I like how much action is infused into this YA vampire series' plot. It's not just a faffy romance, and it provides a bit of intrigue which Stephenie Meyer has completely failed to do.

There were several times where I just wanted to give up. Just quit and throw in the towel. But I persevered, and I am kind of glad that I did.

Now a few things that I found annoying, and that would have caused me to throw the book (Had I been reading the book itself & not listening to the cd)...all of the stereotypes yet again. Jack? Please, just please. Don't even get me started on the Zoe being confused about 3 guys, yet calling Aphrodite a Ho (many, many, many times). The pop culture references...yet again abound. But hey, when you are just writing to put a new roof on the house, who cares if it will still be around in 20 years? These books just sprung up because of the beloved "Twilight" craze, honestly. But, I'm going to keep reading. Because I want to find out if Mary Sue...I mean Zoe is going to get her hair messed up at all. Because she is "The most powerful fledgling EVER!" (Which you are reminded of constantly. Sometimes several times per paragraph.) I also want to know what happens to Stevie Rae (BOO!), Damian (yay!) and Heath, and possibly Aphrodite, Neferet, and oh, the Twins.

What can I say, I'm a glutten for punishment!

The second book in the House of Night series sees Zoey Redbird struggling to redefine the Dark Daughters, as she has been chosen as their new leader.

In a series of twists and turns, the plot thickens as humans Zoey had known before becoming marked start being killed, presumably by vampires. Juggling two boyfriends, Zoey has to save her human "almost ex-boyfriend" Heath, and in the process uncovers an unsettling secret about her mentor, Neferet, and her true intentions.

Hilariously written and very fast-paced, this book kept me up reading it into the early hours of the morning, desperate to finish it and move onto the next one. Highly recommended.

Rating: PG-13
Moderate language, intense violence, some sex, and mild drug content.

This book was so much more than I ever expected. Well the series is turning out o be more. The Casts' put so much emotion into the story, it was incredible. I felt like I was feeling the same emotions that Zoey was feeling.

The first book was good but this one I just couldnt put down. I wanted to know what was gonna happen next. The characters in the story are all amazing and unique. I love that the Casts' didnt sugar-coat anything. The story fit the actual teenager well from the language to the attitude of the kids... just everything. I cannot put into words how I felt about this one other than it was one of the best stories that I have ever read.
