Another Book, and more characters I can't seem to like and a plot that just keeps going in circles.

Let's try and keep this brief but characters:

- Cleo: probably one of the only good ones but it's so annoying how she has to get things done and how she knows she has to get things done is by being in the worst situation possible.

- Jones: deserves to be dead in my opinion. One of his life goals was taken from him, the other he sucks at accomplishing, he has mixed obsession with love and has no other plan then "how about we as a very small force kidnap this very influential person to the king? That won't end badly for us at all!" ......

- Magnus: I want to like you because you finally got rid of the worst characters in existence, but I also can't stand how his only reaction to getting anything done is to be a lap dog to his father..... because trauma...

- Lysandra: absolutely useless and annoying

- Nic: needs to get over himself.

- Lucia: needs to realized she isn't in love but is being groomed and that everyone around her wants her for one thing. Also I will never forgive you for killing Hanna even though you didn't mean it.

And can we just talk about how quickly it feels like people fall in love or their emotions change in this series???? Like everyone is in love with Cleo. Cleo starts questioning her feeling for people with just a kiss. Nic is essentially hoping he could fill Theons role as guard who is in love with Cleo who Cleo will love back. The plot also is just so filler. The only thing we really get to know is the Watchers are not only assholes but truly evil and vial people and Alexios is basically seducing Lucia to kill her for their grand plans and she is just..... going along with it. More evidence why people fall way to quickly in this series. I'd really wish we could get some actual concrete progress on the actual main plot of this series and actually idk FINDING THE KINDRED! Which I hope is what we were getting in the end but it also still doesn't make sense regardless.

I loved this book! This series is so amazing. This book was so addicting, I didn't want to put it down. I loved Falling Kingdoms but this book was even better. I can't wait to continue on and read Gathering Darkness :) Read my full review here http://booknerd777.blogspot.com/2017/02/book-reviews-falling-kingdoms-rebel.html

“A gown does not make a bride, just as a few empty threats do not make a rebel.”

This was pretty much my only focus in this book. Finally, the pace picked up considerably, and I enjoyed reading. The rebels were on the move, and magic became a priority. Other than Magnus, I still could not connect with any of the characters, but by the end of the book I adored Cleo. She had a lot of growing up to do, and all so sudden, when both her kingdom and her life was at risk.

There was no hope in death, only an end.

This is what Cleo learned, and this was what she fought against.

My only concern with this book (and also in the first book that I ignored) was instalove. It felt forced, and I think it was only there for the sake of romance, when the focus was on anything but romance. It wasn't necessary, and it was too quick, mildly annoying.

Ah, so I just finished the third book and now I'm super blurred about what happens in which book because the plot flows SO well from book to book. I honestly can't tell where this series is going, and it's so exciting and gripping and I'm in love with it.

My Thoughts

Holy crap, my friends. This was even better than the first one! It was so intense. Rebel Spring kept me on the edge of my seat from page 1. And by the time that I reached the ending, I understand why so many people dreaded the waiting game for the next book to come out because that wait must have been brutal! I am so happy that I collected these and have them all to binge read right after the other. But at the same time... a part of me wishes I had been on this wagon from the very beginning because, my friends, this series is just so amazing.

Morgan Rhodes is a real storyteller. I love her writing and I love the world building and how I feel transported to the world of Mytica. Morgan Rhodes has become an auto-buy author for me and she should make your list, too!

What I really loved about this sequel was the fact that we delved more into the story. So, book 1 was great.. I absolutely loved it. But it only scratched the surface of the actual story. Book 1 did great in building the world and building the characters. It was great because Rebel Spring was able to thrive from the bones that Falling Kingdoms built. Rebel Spring had me feeling even more for the characters. I was able to get a better read on these characters and I realized that I fell in love with them even more!

Speaking of characters, Cleo and Magnus are my absolute favorites for sure. But I'm also loving all of the other characters. And I really don't want to list them in case you haven't read this book or series. But let me tell you that be cautious with reading this series because Morgan Rhodes is ruthless and is not afraid to kill her darlings. And I do not mean by cutting scenes/editing. I mean literally killing her darling precious characters. When I referred to Falling Kingdoms as the YA version of Game of Thrones, I meant that because of how many characters die. But when you think about it, it makes sense because this series is about a WAR. There is bound to be death.

BUT IT IS SO AMAZING! If you love fantasy, please read this series and talk to me about it!!! I know hardly anyone who has read this series and I need more people to talk to about it!!!!

Rebel Spring was by far better than Falling Kingdoms and I can tell the story is slowly getting better. However I still found it lacking and very very predictable. But I am more interested in finishing this series now than I was when I started this book.

¡YAAAA!
