It was good though I felt like less happened in this one? I was kind of surprised that it was already the end, the story didn't really seem to progress as much.

(THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE WHOLE SERIES)

It's been some time since I've read this series. I finished it and I couldn't think about anything else, couldn't focus on anything else. I just needed some time to get used to the idea that this is the end, that there's no more of this world.

Now, when I'm trying to write this review, I can't remember where exactly each book started and ended. It's one big story in my heart.

So, I've read "Angelfall" six years ago. All I remember from that time is that I really liked the book and I wanted to buy the whole series before reading the second book. Who knows why I didn't read them when I bought the books but I regret it so hard. This series is amazing and it forever holds a big and special place in my heart.

My reread of "Angelfall" was a bit slow because I mostly knew the story and I only got a few details I had forgotten. But by the end of the book I was hooked all over again and ready to jump into the next book.

The writing is so easy to read once you fall into the world of Penryn. The pages fly as you unfold the story and it's just so easy to get sucked in and lost in these books.

I love the whole idea of this apocalyptic world. Angels coming to earth, showing that they're not the good godly creatures humanity thought. The struggles and fights that humans have, the bigger angels' politics scheme that's behind the whole invasion. With the first book, I didn't expect it to be that deep but here we are. All the plot's twists and turns were amazing.

What I love a lot about this series is Penryn. She's a simple teenage girl and her mission is to save her sister and protect her family. Even after she meets the hot guy and falls for him, even after all they both go through, she keeps that mission in the first place to the end. She doesn't let love change her course and I love and respect that. I think that this is the best example of enemies to lovers I've read.

There's this part close to the end of the last book when they kiss and they know that once they pull away, they'll be on different sides. It breaks my heart but I love that pain. The romance in this series is so beautifully written and intertwined with the plot in a way that's not overwhelming. What can I say? For me, everything in this series is so perfect.

I wish there was more of this world but the end was well done. I kinda didn't expect it after everything but im happy and satisfied.

If there's one thing I really want to say about this series it's - just give it a chance

The first 75% of the book was really boring and nothing happened. It took me months to want to pick it up and finish it. At the 75% mark, I finished the rest of the book in one sitting. If only the whole book had the same action, pacing and Raffe! I'm pretty sure the downfall was that
Spoiler Raffe was missing for the majority of the book. Penryn just isn't as great alone.

Now that's more complicated Penryn is still dealing with the fact that her mother is unstable, that her sister Paige is messed up by the angels and that Raffe has left her to hunt for his wings and that everything is complicated.  The world is messed up, the angels and demons have plans that are going to make things way to messed up for everyone and many of the humans have not realised that this isn't something that they can ignore and hope goes away.

Penryn is strong but doesn't really realise it and there is hope for her and her family, she makes mistakes but owns up to them and the sword is subtly changing her.  I'm very curious as to what happens next.

Could be supernatural, demons, monsters (these angels are quite monstrous); diverse voices, terrifying women but I'm using it for Chilling Children for what's happening to Paige

description

Wow. Personally, I felt this book was even better than the first. The covers of this series are so simple, yet beautiful and angelic at the same time.

Following straight on from where Angelfall left off, Penryn has her sister back and is on her way to the Resistance camp. However, as she begins to fall into a routine, she cannot help but wonder what Paige has become. Though with the angel's secrets out and their desperation heightened after the attack, they have become even more brutal than before. As Penryn tries to look after her family and find Raffe, the remaining humans must try and work together to bring the angels and their new pets/species down; before the real apocalypse begins.

Penryn is a strong, witty, fearsome and kick-butt protagonist who will not take no for an answer. She looks out for those around her, but also tries to do what she can to save all her kind, and does not kill for the sake of it; she leaves her rage for those who have seriously done wrong. She is a fighter, and will do anything to get better. It was the scene where Penryn told Raffe the name of the sword. I literally laughed-out-loud.

""Do you realise that when she fights in battles, she's going to have to announce herself to the opposing sword? She'll be forced to say something ridiculous like, 'I am Pooky Bear, from an ancient line of archangel swords.' Or, 'Bow down to me, Pooky Bear, who has only two other equals in all the worlds.'"He shakes his head. "How is she going to get any respect?""
World After by Susan Ee, Ebook

In this one, we saw very little of Raffe, but he was still amazing. Though the romance in this novel was not like the first, and even in the first there was little, I was pleased as this did allow for more action and adventure, alongside plot development.

Which leads me on to the action and adventure. My goodness. It was amazing. The action was full-on and does not hold back, the description of attacks is captivating and you cannot help but read on. And can I just say, Ee does not hold back. This book was creepy, and I mean creepy. But in a good way. Ee's descriptive language really helps the reader to imagine the world alongside the events occurring which immerses' you into the astounding and dangerously sad world that has been created. It was heart-wrenching and powerful, one of the best action-packed sequels I have read in a while.

With an empowering protagonist, World After is an amazing sequel that will certainly have you craving End of Days.

“My only thought is that I am not going to end up truly dead this time in Raffe’s arms. I am not going to be one more wound on his soul.”

World After picks up immediately after Angelfall. The survivors fear Penryn's sister, Paige. They attempt to capture her, but she escapes and Penryn goes after her. Penryn ends up at the centre of the angels' plan and is horrified. All the while, Raffe searches for his wings, and eventually, Penryn's and Raffe's paths cross again.

After reading some reviews, I was scared that World After wasn't going to live up to all the hype and that it would fall victim to the second book syndrome. It didn't. It wasn't boring as I had seen others label it as, and whilst it's a seemingly similar plot, the two differ dramatically and you are quickly thrust into the action. I found the plot tightly woven and well developed and moved at a quick pace. It didn't fail to please. One of the best post-apocalyptic series I've read and I cannot wait to continue with the series. But June 2014? JUNE?

Anyway, let's continue with the review. The characters. Penryn is one of my all time favourite protagonist, because, seriously? She's pretty damn awesome. And bad-ass. Am I right? Snarky, intelligent, quick thinking, kick-ass, independent. Raffe; tall, dark and handsome. Whilst you didn't see him in person till around the last quarter of the book, you see him through (this could sort of be considered a spoiler, but IDK?) flashbacks and I enjoyed learning a bit about Raffe when he was an archangel and did angely stuff. The secondary characters are also well developed and likeable.

Overall, it was a fantastic read and I would suggest reading Angelfall if you haven't already.

Seriously.

Read it. Then read this.

Even though it's a 2010s young adult trilogy and there are things that today would have been done differently, Penryn is a very likable heroine and the story is engaging enough to keep me reading.
After the end of the first book Penryn has found her family and lost Raffe but there is something linking them, the sword she still holds as its true owner for now is offering her some visions that might help her survive this nightmarish world and understand Raffe's point of view.
She has her place amongst the rebels but her family doesn't fare too well there and she might need to decide. If circumstances did let her decide. Sometimes, she just has to go witht he wave and trust on herself most than anything else.
