4.5 stars!

I really really liked this one! I loved the kids and I loved the cakes lol. I really liked how driven Eugenia was and I would have liked a little more seeing her work than basically one quick scene before Ward steals her away.

I liked the pond scenes and that Ward was respectful of her fears, and when she worried more about keeping Otis safe than herself oh my heart was so full of pride and love and then Ward had to become grumpy boots ect.

This book wasn’t perfect, I got annoyed at times and it happened more towards the end which isn’t that new for me it happens often. I just find a lot of books go for the break up and then the person who ended it has this aha moment (he literally stumbled in shock when he had his) and then things get a little cheesy and not quite believable. I’m glad she told him to go away when she saw him again, but I do think the House of Lords proclamation and reunion was a little daytime tv and quick to move on.

I DID however love the cake scene and his attempt. That was super adorable. I would have preferred him to trick her into going there and proposing there rather than how he did and them hashing it all out at that point and then hashing it out again at the house. But maybe that’s just me.

Will there be another in this series? I hope so...

This book didn't really hold my attention. I was finding myself just wanting to get the book over with.

I love this author and I am sorry to say I did not love this book. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I was reading a library copy that had water damage along the bottom of the pages and that was kind of distracting. I discarded the book when I got back to work because it was so annoying (but we have another copy). Anyway, I didn't like the hero because I thought he was really self-serving and I didn't like the heroine because she was so dumb about it and I also think this was a little more lusty than I really like. Eugenia runs an agency for training and placing governesses, and I'm sorry, but I think it's a little unrealistic to build up THE premier governess agency in England in only seven years. And of course Ward has become the guardian of two much younger half-siblings who need a governess and they run off not one, but two of Eugenia's top governesses because they are so awful (spoiler: these kids could be SO MUCH WORSE. Seriously. SO MUCH worse.) so guess who has to step in to help in a crisis? And sneak around having mind-blowing sex every night with the children's guardian? There was a lot I didn't like about this book. Maybe I need to switch over to more mysteries for a while.

i liked the dynamic between all the characters esp the kids and the adults but the ending didnt have enough groveling imo. the reason why the third act break up happens is a very reasonable one and i think it takes way more than what he did to prove hes sorry tbh
Spoileri dont think screaming you love someone in a public place is an apology for telling someone they dont deserve to be your wife bec they are not a lady but then start wanting them after you realize she is

anyway now im just curious of all the older characters relationship so im going backwards to read about the parents

okay i read the [b:A Duke of Her Own|6049962|A Duke of Her Own (Desperate Duchesses, #6)|Eloisa James|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1305075069l/6049962._SY75_.jpg|6225596] after this and there is a part of this story about edwards mom that has been adjusted and as someone whos binging this series it was not fun. im happy i read this before the prequel. they didnt even seem like the same ppl. if that doesnt bother you then go ahead and read this book
Spoilerbasically edwards grandmother is dead when we meet his mom in a duke of her own so the whole time i felt weird bec in this book the whole story is that wards mom was the way she is bec his grandma is so strict to the point of suffocation which wasnt the case... she was dead lol okay ill stop but it just hit me that it was same ppl yeah im glad i read this first

Another one from James that I enjoyed. This author can be hit or miss for me, but this story works. It's also fabulous because it features a bastard son and a widower. You don't often get to read historical romances that play with characters outside of the ruling classes. While both characters are born to peers, their circumstances have them in trade, which I found delightful.

I am so glad that I read this BEFORE I read the Eloisa James novel where Eugenia is a child. I really hate Eloisa's wider world, because if there is one thing that can break the mood of a romance novel, it is reading sex scenes about a character that was a kid two books ago. I just really do not enjoy this. If I can manage to consider the book as a stand-alone, I definitely enjoyed it. Lizzie, especially was quite adorable. It was a decent plot, even if the kidnapping plot device was way overused.
Spoiler Seriously, she was kidnapped like three times in this book by the hero.

It was enjoyable like all her books but I forgot everything that happened basically the moment I finished it.
