This is a fine topic as a guest on a podcast- but as a full length book it was stretched.

New year, new resolutions, blah blah blah. I was curious to read this book as it popped into my social media feeds I think and it sounded like something I had already often incorporate: big, massive changes can be scary but taking it one step at a time or tweaking things around something I do can make it seem much more manageable.

It wasn't a very good read. I understood the premise but have to agree it does feel like an "infomercial". It's my understanding that the author has also given a TED talk on the matter and this is one of those things that tend to work better in that type of format rather than a book. I honestly got a lot more by reading the end of each section and looking at the exercises to get the gist rather than trying to slog through the text.

Some of it didn't quite click with me (flossing one tooth?) but I do get it (like someone who wants to lose weight but is addicted to say buying their coffee can cut back by making their own or even simply buying a water bottle to keep at their desk to encourage more water consumption to replace even one cup of coffee, etc.). Grandiose ideas like deciding you're going to lose 100 pounds by the end of the year (which is doable by some!) may seem super intimidating when you get around to realizing it's January 2nd and time to go to the gym. But doing things like taking the stairs vs. the elevator or even parking further away to add extra steps can be more doable.

This book was absolutely not for me even if I understood the premise. I will be checking out his TED talk, though and wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a better media to convey what he's selling.

Borrowed from the library and I'd recommend that's the way you read it. But if you know of someone who is having a hard time "getting started" or find this method is better for them, it might not be a bad purchase, either.

Here, lemme save you some time: break the stuff you want to do into small steps. No, smaller than that. Then ... drumroll ... do those steps! Do them again!
Hooray!
Do them again!
Yeah, that's it.

This book is well researched, well reasoned, with a plan well laid out for you to follow. Do you need a whole book? Do you need charts with arrows? Do you need inspirational anecdotes? You might, so go ahead and check this out and try it.

You don't? Get going then, do your stuff, it's going to be great.

Great book. Learned some great new tactics to build better habits.

It was a little on the basic side.

Thoughts
*Interesting ideas about productivity and how to build habits.
*Most things seemed obvious, but I guess that's the point!
*I wished there were more stories, but overall enjoyed!
