The thing is with short stories, is that once you start getting attached to the characters, the story ends and you have to start anew with literary strangers as the cycle repeats. Short stories are thus as enjoyable as the language in which they are written and the feelings they evoke, and I do not believe Camus delivered with this one. Perhaps reading it in French would have been a different experience.

„To nic není, miláčku,“ řekla, „to nic není.“

My only previous exposure to Camus was "The Stranger" a few months back, which I enjoyed but didn't thoroughly understand at first passing. Taking in his philosophical absurdism is easier in smaller doses with the six short stories presented here. Each one carries a strong sense of individual character and purpose, the common theme being one of "exile" or separation. I look forward to digging into more of his work.

Okay so the first three stories were amazing!!!
The fourth story was good but not memorable. What was memorable though was the last line. The last one tbh was kind of boring.

So overall it was great. It really highlighted Albert's fantastic prose and insightful stories.
