This book was so cute. I loved the slow progression of romance, and the growth they both saw. Over all such a cute story.

The audio book was also amazing. I enjoyed listening to it at work while making copies and cutting paper. It was a light listen that left me smiling the rest of the day.

A slow burn , marriage of convenience regency. The characters were lovable and I care about them so much. I appreciate how PTSD was perceived in this book.

Just TMI. I started this book because of the gorgeous cover and I do not have any regrets.

I am into Historical Fiction / Regency lately. And I need recommendations.

(February 2022) Audiobook: I loved getting to experience this story again with the audio version! This is a sweet and clean marriage of convenience story. However, Sally Britton really makes her characters earn their happy ending. Both need to grow, change, and learn some important lessons before they can finally experience marital bliss. The narrator for this audiobook did an excellent job, highly recommend!

(October 2021) I loved this sweet marriage of convenience story. Pippa (Phillipa) and Myles are two good people who meet at the beginning of the book and agree to marry for their mutual benefit. It was lovely to see their romance blossom. There's a cute scene near the beginning where Pippa realizes that she'd like to be rescued but it takes a bit longer for them to make the connection, too funny. Very slow burn, but so sweet when it all comes together. These two are totally MFEO. (Sleepless in Seattle, y'all) It was fun to see some characters from the Ingleside series as well. Content warning: soldiers dealing with PTSD

“I am broken, Pippa. My body is scarred, but so are my mind and my heart. I am not a whole man—I never will be…”. ~ Myles

After some unfortunate attention in the gossip columns, Philippa decides to take matters into her own hands and proposes marriage to a man she has only met in passing. With the help of her solicitor, she investigates the man’s life and habits, deeming him worthy she draws up a legal agreement of partnership/marriage.

The man, Myles Cobbett, is a veteran of Britain’s war with France and he has the ghastly scars to prove it…missing fingers, disfigured face and an eye patch. But those are only the visible scars, the only scars he dares to share. Deeper, darker scars afflict his mind, his dreams and heart.

While he may be an unsuitable match for Philippa, they are actually quite similar. Both are considerate, compassionate, and caring souls. Of course, they don’t see their commonality. Myles agrees to her proposal because she needs saving, rescuing. That is what he does, he helps those in need and always puts others first. He is honorable and noble, beautiful on the inside, even if society profess him horrifying on the outside. But in the end Philippa isn’t the only one who needs rescuing.

This story totally caught me off guard! A marriage of convenience with a hint of Beauty and the Beast, then some PTSD to sober the context. And I so appreciate the author’s notes about the subject of veterans, their sacrifices, and their well-being. Brilliant, tender, adorable!

Side note: Sally has been putting audio of her books on YouTube for free! I started the audio then switch over to the kindle so I could highlight some terrific passages.

Such a beautiful book. I loved the character of Pippa in His Unexpected Heiress and I am so happy she got her own book. I also love marriage of convenience tropes so they combined together to make a wonderful love story. This is a sweet romance about the power of love and how it helps to heal us if we let it.

Ahhh! I LOVED this book. I can’t even...ha ha, okay, I guess I can because I need you to know how good it is. I couldn’t stop reading it. My family is lucky they got fed. How often do you finish a book and feel completely satisfied? Not wish for one tiny detail of the story to be different? For me it’s actually not that often. I enjoy many books, and even love lots of books, but I don’t often feel this happy at the end of a book. I am a big fan of a marriage of convenience story and I have read many. This is now one of my favourites of all that I have read. During the build up to the marriage I actually thought, “Hey, this makes more sense and seems more reasonable than the reasons for marrying in a lot of these stories.” The whole story just flowed organically and wasn’t forced or tortured. It was impossible not to fall in love with the hero and heroine. Their character growth was compelling. The relationship development was beautiful. Romantic tension and build-up in a clean romance novel is a real art. It’s definitely on display here. And for once I felt like the characters behaved a lot like how I think I would behave in that situation. They had reasonable reserve and anxieties, but they didn’t keep things from each other forever just to prolong the story. The hero’s war experiences and PTSD were an important layer to the story and were addressed well. This author likes her research and she added many details throughout that enriched the story and settings. And I love a good epilogue! This one was so satisfying. You can also look forward to visits from characters from other books by this author...and not just the expected ones from “His Unexpected Heiress”. This book is a sequel to that book in some ways and I think that reading both enriches the experience of this book, but this book is still wonderful as a stand-alone. (Although I bet you’ll want to go back and read the first book after you read this one. Just saying....) So to sum up, READ THIS BOOK!!! I unreservedly recommend it!
