The title of this book sounds all woo-woo new agey, but it's a readable book about the brain based in science. Neuroplasticity and shit like that. Basically, how you can retrain your brain through meditation, activity and observation so you don't keep treading those old thought patterns. Super helpful for my own anxiety! 4.5 stars.

Bardzo dobra książka, obrazowo tłumacząca co się dzieje w naszej głowie i dlaczego. Bardzo dobra dla osób, które nie mają szerokiej wiedzy psychologicznej - ta książka super przekazuje wiedzę!
Jednocześnie mam wrażenie, że sama (mimo, że trochę już wiem) zyskałam nową perspektywę patrzenia na procesy myślowe zachodzące w różnych sytuacjach.

- no ale muszę dodać, że nie wiem czy to ja czy ona ale spędziłyśmy ze sobą ok 2 miesiące, a zazwyczaj czytam takie książki szybciej

3.5. The book isn't what one would assume based on the title. Imagine a book heavy on the science, rich with clinical experience/examples, and overall thoughtfully written. Not a lot to complain about here. Just perhaps a little dry. It's best consumed over time, as there is a lot of wisdom to be found.

I’ve been focusing a lot this year on mindfulness and one of the top rated books on the topic, Mindsight, was my November personal development read. Dr. Daniel Siegel takes readers through his research in the brain and inspiring stories of individuals who changed their lives through therapy and developing mindsight, which is an intense form of meditation, at least that is what I understood.
I really enjoyed part two of the book, the stories of his clients who had various major problems and through meditation and therapy, instead of medication, they were able to repair relationships, work through problems, and find their happy. It also highlighted, to me, how important body scans and daily meditation can be. I have been meditating since this summer, but only religiously for 33 days. I don’t always feel solace afterwards, but my mind is still busy and I’m ONLY 33 days in. THis book showed me that no matter how I feel afterwards it’s imperative that I continue working towards mindsight because it is so good for my brain.
I don’t really have a gripe with the book, it did get long, especially part one where he breaks down the very intricacies of the brain, but even then, seeing how meditation can calm the stress center of the brain was truly intriguing. This book is long and very psychological, it’s not for everyone and I definitely could use another read through to really grasp more of the concepts Siegel highlights, but if you’re looking for the why behind meditation, I definitely think it should go into your ‘to be read’ stack.

This book is much more about neurology than your typical self-help book. I enjoyed immensely the first part, which presents the advancement in neuroscience and theory of the mind. The second part focuses on a number of psychotherapy study cases and the use of mindfulness in their treatment to leverage neuroplasticity. I felt that this second part, while interesting, was not very helpful in practice. 3.5 stars

Ne ajută să fim conștienți de procesele noastre mintale, fără să fim acaparați de ele, ne permite să decuplăm pilotul automat al comportamentelor și al răspunsurilor noastre reflexe adânc înrădăcinate și ne scapă din capcanele emoționale reactive în care avem cu toții tendința de a ne lăsa prinși la infinit. Ne permite „să numim și să îmblânzim” emoțiile trăite, în loc să fim copleșiți de ele. Gândiți-vă la diferența dintre a spune „Sunt trist” și „Mă simt trist”. Oricât de asemănătoare ar părea cele două enunțuri, între ele există, de fapt, o diferență profundă. „Sunt trist” e un fel de autodefinire, chiar una foarte limitativă. „Mă simt trist” sugerează capacitatea de a recunoaște și de a lua la cunoștință sentimentul respectiv, fără a-i permite să ne consume. Abilitățile de concentrare care stau la baza mindsight-ului ne dau posibilitatea să observăm și să acceptăm ceea ce este înăuntrul nostru, iar, acceptând acel ceva, să ne detașăm de el și, în cele din urmă, să îl transformăm.

Puteți concepe mindsight-ul și ca pe o lentilă foarte specială, care ne oferă capacitatea de a ne percepe mintea cu o claritate mai mare decât înainte. Aproape oricine poate căpăta această lentilă, iar odată ce dispunem de ea, putem plonja adânc în oceanul mintal interior.”
