The premise of this book was really quite cool but I found parts of the book to be disjointed and unnecessary. The chapters dealing with the preacher were heavy handed and not particularly necessary for the plot. The idea that the dead stay alive while there are still people who remember them was really a great concept for a book. The ending felt to abrupt and the protagonist's journey towards death was awkward. I really wanted to like this book a lot but was ultimately disappointed. I did walk away from the book with new thoughts about death.

Odd little novel. Not really sure what I think of it, except that I was faintly bored throughout.

I really loved the writing and the beginning and middle of this book, but I was dissatisfied with the ending because I felt like there was no resolution. The implausibilities didn't bother me at all because the stories and descriptions of various characters were so wonderful and thought-provoking. I expected an equally thought-provoking ending, and when I finished I couldn't decide if the book was two or three chapters too long or if it simply stopped in the middle. I still recommend it though and I want to read more of this author.

It's been awhile since I read this, and pieces of it still stick with me. An amazing, haunting story.

Beautiful and moving. But I think I'm going to take a break from pandemic themed books for a while.

A very interesting and original take on the end of the world. Starts strong but ends weak.

I really liked the setup for this book. The first 1/4 of the book is fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the first several characters introduced. After the first 125 pages of this book it fizzled. Too many characters' points of view, most of which were only interesting as side characters, not as major drivers of the story. Ultimately, the conclusion centers on a whole chapter of hallucinations, which I hated reading. Please, no dreams and no hallucinations. They don't make for good story.

So this was an interesting story. It had a more narrative feel than most books that I read and it tended to jump between present and past, but it was very well written and very intriguing. While I might pick up more books from this author, it's not really one I would run out and get right away
