I have had this book on my kindle to read for about a year now and today I decided to give it a go. Since it was over a year since I had read the first one "Hollowland", I only remembered bits and pieces of it. I was a little lost in the beginning but I was recapped enough to figure out what was going on. I found it hard at first to get into because Remy is such a tough character but I can imagine you could get like that if you had gone through what she had. I think this one had a more adult vibe to it, it could have been fleshed out a lot more. less walking and less carrying children more of anything else??? It didn't really seem to link to the previous book.
SpoilerAll of the characters from book one are not in it or dead, which I found strange.
It could almost be a stand alone. But I can imagine if they are read together it would be a lot more enjoyable.

SpoilerI found it weird that the love interest from the first one is not in this one and spoiler alert there is a new love interest. Who I think is way better that the other guy. I kept waiting for him to show up and it be awkward... hehe..

But over all a great quick zombie read.

good series but I thought there could have been more guess it's because I'm not used to reading series with only 2 books lol but it was still a good story and definitely worth reading :)

Most definitely better than the first one. As with every book I've ever read, most of my favorites didn't make it, but all-in-all it wasn't a bad read. I kind of wish Hocking had given some characters a proper death, instead of the whole "Oh look, is that main character from the first book is a zombie?" I'm also not a huge fan of any of this series love interests, but Boden isn't wholly horrible. I feel bad for Lazlo, though. He kind of got screwed over.

So. I loved it and hated it. 1. Lazlo. He said he wouldn't leave without her and what does he do? LEAVE! 2. Tatum dies from peeing behind a bush. No, really. A BUSH! he could have at least died while fighting not peeing. 3. it seemed like they got to the burnt down place from the first book (aka where they found that London guy) super fast. 4. She found her brother like poof! Shes sitting on a roof and out of nowhere you hear her little brother whispering for Ripely and bam! their together again. *Le Sigh* 5. there's little action. Oh, they get some zombies but not like the first one. So, its a little fast for me, it could use more action, maybe more romance would have kept it a little less disappointing. 6. The ending seemed rather... missing. I just wish the ending had a bit more... awesomeness to it than it had. Again it just seemed fast. But never the less, I still liked it. I guess because I'm a sucker for the whole dystopia/zombie books that made me keep reading this book. If there is going to be a 3rd ( and it seems like there would be) I'll probably read it and hopefully it will be better.

This was my first post-apocalyptic novel/series that included Zombies. I loved the premise and the characters but the second installment I didn't understand.. why were some of the dominant characters in the first novel completely left out of the second book? Why did Blue and other characters care to help Remy find Max? They made it their primary objective, to risk their lives, for what? There was no concrete, supporting evidence that Max or Remy could be answers to the epidemic yet Blue, for example, risked the safety of the quarantine to evacuate Max. The latter part of this second novel was hastily written and that saddens me. This series had a lot of potential but poor planning and development has stunted any future growth.

I finished this over the weekend but I'm just getting to the review. This book was just as good as Hollowland. I'm a huge romance fan so when Lazlo failed to make an appearance in this book I was a little bummed. But as I got further into the story I loved how Amanda Hocking made it so realistic-well as realistic as a book about Zombie's can be. If you get separated from your boyfriend in a post-apocalyptic zombie ridden world chances are high you won't be seeing him again.

There were a lot more personal deaths in this one then in the first one. Some really good characters were killed, but again it ties in with the realistic aspect and I liked that. All in all a great Zombie book, I'm excited to get my hands on the third book and finish the series.
