I just loved this book. I felt like I was slipping into a bit of a slump just before I read it and it was the first book in a while where I just wanted to inhale it in one sitting – as well as drag it out to make it last longer. I just couldn’t put it down.

The angst – the pining – the way they clearly felt deeply for each other but not wanting to acknowledge it – it was so beautifully done. I felt a bit like the book was written for me in a lot of ways. The romance is so solid – they had great chemistry, the sex scenes are sensual and beautifully written but not perfect. They have some really lovely sweet moments and their relationship develops so naturally over the course of the book.

Overall this book does relationships really well - not just the romantic one, but Erin’s relationship with her family, especially her father, was really touching, and I loved how the unplanned pregnancy trope was done. It was so well-crafted. The baby is essential to the development of their relationship and it really digs into how they can’t have one without the other. Also – Seth genuinely behaves badly in the book and has to grovel; he has to make up for his mistakes.

Their characterisation was good, too. Erin is vulnerable but strong and I loved how she stood up for herself, and Seth…I loved Seth. He really needed to work on himself and do better, but I liked how naive and vulnerable he actually was beneath the surface. Seeing him fall in love with both Erin and their daughter was adorable; he was such a lovely father and I loved how much he wanted his daughter to know he loved her.

I just loved this book. It was so deeply romantic and sexy and hot and beautifully written. This is a slow burn of a book, in a lot of ways; although they’re having sex through a lot of it, the romantic burn is a lot slower and this leads to so much depth between them and to the story as a whole. It was fleshed out so well, the story is so balanced, and their HEA is so hard-won that I felt so satisfied by the end of it. Overall, a truly lovely read.

Content Notes: Unplanned pregnancy, one night stand, forced proximity, friends-with-benefits.

Warnings:
SpoilerDeath of a grandparent, death of a parent, controlling behaviour from a spouse (in past), vomiting, scenes of sickness, hospital scenes, childbirth / labour (described graphically on-page).

Other:
SpoilerOn-page sex, unprotected sex
SpoilerCondoms used initially then later they use no condoms on a couple of occasions. STIs are discussed and the FMC is not on birth control. It’s worth noting that they do use a condom during their first time having sex, when she gets pregnant; it’s assumed by the characters that the condom broke.
, unplanned pregnancy, pregnancy, OW drama
SpoilerThe MMC appears to date many different OW for most of her pregnancy. He leaves dates with OW to spend time with the FMC, including when they’re occasionally having sex due to her hormones. The FMC assumes the MMC is actively having sex with other women as well as her. It’s later clarified that he definitely didn’t sleep with any OW for the last few months of her pregnancy (not sure about earlier). They then separate for 6 months after the baby is born. The MMC later confirms he was celibate during this time (as is the FMC). After they reunite, the FMC is led to believe that he slept with OW, but it’s confirmed he didn’t.
, OM drama
SpoilerFMC goes on dates with other men in the book, including when she’s pregnant, but never does anything physical with them.

In NAMELESS we are introduced to Seth and Erin who, following a one night stand, find themselves in a quasi-relationship due to the child they are unexpectedly expecting.

Seth is a no-nonsense attorney used to getting his way and Erin is coming off a bad marriage, exerting her independence so as not to be controlled as she was previously. Both damaged with fears that make committing to one another a trial, their journey is wrought with misunderstandings and miscommunication. The only place they communicate with ease is in bed.

The story is told strictly from Erin's POV so we're to read between the lines as to Seth's motives, feelings and actions. I liked the story well enough but I may have liked it a tad more were I able to get into Seth's head a bit more. Like Erin I was constantly frustrated that he gave nothing away. His feelings. His expectations. Nothing. Ever. I didn't see the hospital conversation coming AT ALL (though I suspected he had genuine feelings for Erin that weren't tied to the baby) and was surprised that that had come into play so early in the story. I did enjoy that the book spanned such a long period of time, that things weren't wrapped up and ended with the birth of their child. I wanted to strangle Erin during certain parts, but that seems to be a similar feeling with other readers. She was ridiculous, insisting that she had no feelings for Seth aside from platonic ones.

Where others might have a problem with the length of this book, I tend to like longer books so I didn't have a problem with it. Some parts I found unnecessary and I skimmed over those but overall I was pretty enthralled with the story and liked how it flowed.

My favorite parts were Seth's conversations with the baby; and the conversation where he tricks Erin into admitting her feelings. And his jealous outbursts, though they were few.

This book was so unnecessarily fucking long. Unnecessary because the slow burn was poorly executed. Why poorly executed? Bro…

All the did was fuck. Now mind you I would not have minded that… had we actually been getting to know Seth too alongside all the fuckfest.

But at the end of this book, I knew next to NOTHING about Seth as a character. He read more like a cameo than a main character—that’s how bad the writing was. All he did was answer Erin’s booty calls and fuck her. That’s literally fucking it. The author tried to show to us the readers how he gradually fell in love with Erin with every booty call by WAXING POETIC ABOUT HIS EYES SOFTENING AND JAW CLENCHING but it was far. From. Enough??? We needed to know who he was as a character too, but I guess that was too tall an order??

if the author put half as much energy into developing her characters as she did in minute details (on and on) then this novel might have been something.

as it turns out, each scene was bloated with scene detailing that dragged it all the way down. even the “fun” moments felt like watching paint dry (if someone was standing beside you narrating each second of the experience from a molecular POV)

i didn’t like the MC (erin) either. she was ~cringe~ (at best) and underdeveloped and one-sided (just as a baseline).

usually i like novels that build up your emotional investment in the story. but the only thing this novel built up was being bored out of my mind while also determined to finish this *flop* of a story.

2 stars only because it had some ~semblance~ of a plot and i wasn’t ~actively~ rewriting sentences in my head as i read them.

I was enjoying it but then it started getting exasperated with the female character. She kept comparing the male character to her ex and it continue throughout the whole book. He was tiresome too but I guess he was more digestible than she was because I continue reading it because of him.

2021 Thoughts:
I didn't like this as much as I did, the first time I read it in 2014. The heroine is really annoying for a chunk of the book. And it seriously needed to be edited down.

2014 Thoughts:
GREAT story. Fantastic characters.

Could have been edited down a bit, but still great character development over the course of the story.

it started off really promising (i loved the writing and the dialogue was fun) but it started dragging after like 20% in and i started getting super frustrated with both of the mcs. a lot of their conflict felt repetitive and redundant. it was fast paced in the beginning then got really slow so i think that made it more of a chore. i don't usually like the pregnancy trope either (though as i said, it started off promising) so that didn't help either. it's well written, particularly in the first 3rd, but i'm not a huge fan of the writing style. that said this was published a decade ago, so i'm sure there will be noticeable improvement in her more recent works. i'd be willing to try other books from this author because it was well written and i found the characters interesting initially but this one was just a miss for me personally.
