2,5/I can't fathom the fact that the first disappointment of 2020 comes from the conclusion of one of my favourite series of all time (the quintessential read for anyone who wants to dive into sci-fi).The hitcheiker's series has its own complexly beautiful and unique set of rules about space and space travel that result in one of the most pristine worldbuilding I've ever read and Colfer's creative decision to put Norse Mythological into the mix, thus influencing the direction towards which the ending was headed watered down the storytelling. His attempt at humour, and much more to grasp the indiciocracy of British humour and deliver it effortlessly (a key point of the books and Adam's field of expertise) layed flat at most times.

Utter garbage

This book is dreadful. Just utter rubbish.

I can’t believe it’s part of the Hitchhiker’s Guide series. Douglas Adams really must of been off his mind to agree to let Eoin Colfer publish this.

Eoin’s Atremis Fowl was great but this book is just terrible. It’s interspaces with random offshoots of diatribe that are just thrown all over. The constant interruptions of “Guide Notes” just add to the rubbish but become annoying.

The book isn’t even mildly funny. It’s just dull boring attempts and the Author being totally facetious. It really just became a pain to go through the audio book that I’d honestly use it as white noise more than anything else.

Don’t buy this “last” book of HItchhiker’s it is nothing like the great Douglas Adams books!!

Better than I thought it would be, but ultimately un-memorable. Except maybe for Constant Mown. 3.5 stars would be a fair rating.

No,no,no. I love hg2g but boy or boy was this just horrible. For me the "trilogy" ended perfectly. This just completely destroyed it. It feels infact, a lot like the changes they made to the end of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy the movie, simply making it more digestible for a hollywood audience that wants to see a happy ending. The whole Norse gods shtick felt very forced and thus completely out of place almost as if he's just writing to something he's familiar with rather than something that would fit the hg2g universe.I read Artemis Fowl as a kid and sure I liked them then but his writing just doesn't cut it.I get that he can't be Douglas Adams but unfortunately after a 5 part trilogy the difference is too stark to ignore. If you like the original my advice would be to not read this one.THe ending of mostly harmless was poetic and this book is pretty much sacrilege.

I had low expectations and yet I was still just meh about it when I finished. Artemis Fowl creator Eoin Colfer added another installment to The Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy trilogy. This is part 6, at least by its reckoning. It’s meh sci-fi. None of the silliness and fast pace of Douglas Adams’s original. Not as fun as Colfer’s Fowl books. It picks up where one of the previous books left off with Arthur Dent and friends on an Earth waiting for Vogon destruction. I don’t remember a lot of the story’s recent events. Mostly Harmless was pretty bad and there was maybe another between that and this—or maybe Colfer just made up some nonsense knowing only the most serious diehard fans reread from Thanks for All the Fish on. Anyway, the Vogons are outsourcing destruction these days and they’re not really much as villains on a good day. There’s a colony of Earth survivors on a distant planet. Wowbagger is still around but kind of bored with the whole insulting everything in the galaxy schtick. Thor flies in to save the day. I can’t believe any of it will make sense if you haven’t read at least the original three, and if you’ve read all of the books and short story you probably don’t really care anymore. This is just to complete the set as it were. Now let’s let poor Douglas Adams rest in peace.

This wasn’t too froody. I think I’m just over the series lol. It shouldn’t have been revived. There just wasn’t a point to this story as there was was with first few books. 2.5-3 ish stars.

Colfer started off trying too hard to be Adams and it felt forced. I think as it went on he got a bit better. The Guide Notes were a hit or a miss, but I thought it was an interesting addition. He has some other good ideas, and there are many parts that are complicatedly funny. I felt smart enough to get a RNA reference, but I knew I was missing some other inside jokes here and there, and I was honestly too tired to care to figure it out. Sad there was no Marvin and that Trillian still sucked, but glad we got character development with Random and  that Zaphod was back. Kinda.

I was a huge fan of the Artemis Fowl series but must say I was not sure if he could pull this off. I believe he made a valiant attempt. It feels like an impossible task considering the way the series was going; I don’t think Adams could have saved it either if he was alive. It would have been better if Colfer had just written a completely different story with some of the ideas he used in this book and just not touch these characters/world.

Having read all the books now, I understand why I didn’t grow up knowing this was a series lol. I wouldn’t really recommend any book beyond the first one, but if I had to, I would say don’t read beyond the third.

Not as good as the first four Hitchhiker's books, but a better conclusion for the series than Mostly Harmless.
