**I was sent a copy of this in exchange for an honest review/ as a result of my job**
Full disclosure. I haven't actually watched Buffy, in its entirety anyway. I've seen the odd episode here and there and what I have seen I've loved. So it is something that I want to watch eventually. I knew enough to understand why certain characters had been included in this picture book. Things like this always make me smile, its the same feeling I get when I read a book and see a little easter egg the author left. A picture book of Buffy is not only fun for the child but possibly the person reading it to them. The TV show has a massive following a for a parent to be able to introduce their child to something they loved via this kind of media is so lovely. The actual book itself is adorable too, I loved the art style and it has a great message attached to it.

Definitely going to have to find someone to read this too...

A big thank-you to Quirk for sending this over.

I know...I know...it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. How can you go wrong with those characters? It's like mac n cheese. How can you not like mac n cheese. Except for if it's Kraft mac n cheese. Yuck! Well this is the Kraft mac n cheese of Buffy.

Buffy was always a kick ass female who was not a damsel in distress but she had help with her friends and guidance by Giles. She did not make friends with monsters/demons…well okay, maybe with Angel and Spike but that is a whole other conversation. What I am trying to say is that demons/monsters/vampires are not supposed to be friendly except sometimes. This is more complicated than I thought. See…help you child realize life is not always black and white.

Sort of like the Krampus Baby!

If you don’t want to touch on darker subjects or horror then don’t write a children’s book. Glossing over characters that deal with monsters etc is not loyal to the series and not honest to your children. Don’t dumb down to children. If they are too young then wait until the appropriate age or show them examples of good and evil and help their minds work out what is going on. Maybe your children will not appreciate the same shows you watched and that is okay. It does not take away anything from your childhood.

A good way to do this with humor is Apprentice Lord of Darkness by CED

An adorable, beautifully illustrated picture book which re-imagines the story of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Buffy and her friends as eight-year-olds. With tons of cameos and little nods to the show, this book will appeal to kids and their parents alike!

This is really made for the fans. Smith puts a lot of love into these illustrations and if you know the show it is a lot of fun. If you've never seen the show and you're a little kid, you might also by amused by the girl who fights the monsters in her closet.

A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This adaptation of one of my favourite cult classics was adorable! I absolutely loved the style and colours used for the illustrations, and it really took me back and made me “awe” when I saw Buffy, Willow, and Xander as little kids! I was also happy to see Giles make an appearance in this picture book. While I may not be a parent yet, I know that I want my children to feel comfortable with vampires and other monsters (especially around Halloween), and I will definitely, 100%, be reading this book to them!

This author has also written a number of similar books about different pop culture phenomenons like The X Files, Home Alone, Back to the Future, and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial! Next May, she will also have a book out about The Karate Kid! They all look so cute, and I want to collect and read them all (not only for myself, but also for my future children)! But back to Buffy. I really like the spin that Kim Smith put on the story in this book, and although it was short, I found myself caring for the characters, cheering for girl power, and giggling and smiling at a number of different scenes! I definitely recommend this one to Buffy fans and to those who have seen few or zero episodes!

This was cute and an interesting way to try to introduce kids to Buffy's story. It was wholly inaccurate to a point that it kind of annoyed me though. I feel like it missed the point of Buffy or the message it was trying to portray but it looks super cute while doing it.

As a cohost of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast (Get Slayed, go listen to it on iTunes, Stitcher, and Googleplay!) I am often forced to explain Buffy to people who don't really know what it is.

Sometimes those people are my little nieces.

While this book doesn't follow the logic or rules of the show (which is a complaint I saw a lot of), it is true to the essence of Buffy. Brave kids take on monsters even when it is scary. It doesn't really matter when she met Willow and Xander and the age complaint seems a little obnoxious. What we get here is a delightful take on a young Buffy and how fighting your demons actually starts--kids hearing spooky noises in the dark.

Perfect for all the little slayers in your life. <3
