This book is a fine overview of restorative practices for anyone is brand new to them or new to teaching. While there was some helpful information in two of the six chapters, the other four were about how to build relationships with students — pretty basic. I did get some helpful information about peace building (problematic in not crediting the Indigenous peoples whose strategy that is), and circles. I had extra trouble with the student examples that were straight up eye-rolling ridiculous to anyone who has taught teens and the fact that the teachers referenced all worked in one small school. I definitely need more information than this book provided.

This is, by FAR, the best book I have read about education to date. It gave me hope, it gave me easy to implement ideas, it didn't leave me feeling like I wouldn't be able to accomplish what I wanted to with my students. After reading The First Weeks of School I wasn't sure I would find a book about classroom management that made me feel like I could actually help students be better people before this one. I want to use many of these things in my classroom and I can't wait.
