Rifts & Refrains is the second book in the Hush Note trilogy about a famous rock band. Each book is written by a different author and centers around a different band member. Rifts & Refrains is the story of Quinn, Hush Note’s drummer, and Devney Perry does an excellent job of giving us a second chance rock star romance in a small town setting.

There’s that saying that you can’t go home again, and when Quinn returns to her small hometown for a funeral after a nine-year absence, that certainly seems true. The cold reception and animosity she receives from her family, as well as from her first love, create palpable tension. I admired Quinn’s grit and determination, despite being overcome with grief, to stick it out, rise above all pettiness, and try to make amends.

Perhaps I was a little more interested in the family dynamics and the way music is integrated into the plot than I was in the romance between Quinn and Graham. However, I liked Graham and how he fights his attraction to her. They make a cute couple. Graham is a great single dad. His relationship with his son, Colin, is adorable, as is the way Colin gushes over Quinn as a huge fan.

I especially enjoyed the further exploration of the band members’ connection. They are like family. Nixon’s book is next, and I’m excited to see how Quinn supports the troubled guitarist just as he encourages her throughout this book.

I listened to the audiobook, and Maxine Mitchell is a gem, as usual, in her depiction of Quinn. Joe Arden’s narration never disappoints.

I cried a lot with this book. The relationship dynamics Quinn had with her parents and siblings hurt my heart real bad. I enjoyed Graham and Quinn together, but again the pain between them from the past and the present hurt my heart. So I spent alot of this book crying lmao. It was very much they wouldn't give into the inevitable. Graham's son Collin was the best, I loved him and Quinn's relationship. This could have been a five star except I felt like the issues with her family went unresolved, she only talked it out with her dad so I feel like I needed more. Also like the reason they were all mad at Quinn made me mad for her because like.... the phone works 2 ways babes. ANYWAYS, I did enjoy this book and the epilogue made my heart happy after everything!

Devney Perry completely wowed me with this gripping, second chance, rockstar romance. Rifts and Refrains is a beautiful story of forgiveness, finding peace and chasing your dreams with all the charm, heart and community feel we’ve come to love from a Devney Perry small town romance. From the very first page, I was emotionally invested. There is no doubt in my mind this is a five star read. Simply stated - I loved this book.

It had been over nine years since Quinn Montgomery left her small town in Montana. But, the passing of her beloved Nan has forced her to face her family and reunite with Graham Hayes, the man she left behind.

I felt for Quinn when I first met her. She was a drummer in the successful band, Hush Notes, with all the recognition she deserved and still she seemed so lonely. Even after so much time apart, it was apparent Graham and Quinn were each other's love of their lives. Their reunion started off rocky. There was just so much hurt from their departure. It was difficult to be around each other. Once they settled in, it was crystal clear how much of a connection they still had. They were all passion, chemistry and healing. These two just fit. I loved them together. In addition to that, I really enjoyed seeing Quinn interact with Graham's son, Colin. Their bond over the drums and their general behavior towards one another was so cute.

I don't know why Quinn's strained relationship with her family affected me so much. I hurt for all the pain and guilt they all carried resulting from an argument that went too far. Her relationship with her father made me especially sad. I think their reconciliation was my favorite of all. Even more than her and Graham's. Maybe because this is coming from someone who worships her dad, I needed them to be okay.

Like I said before, I loved this book! Devney Perry weaved many of my favorite tropes together masterfully and gave us a beauty that will capture your heart instantaneously. Rifts and Refrains is the second book in the Hush Notes series but the first one I read. I’m very interested in reading the other band members' stories, especially Nixon’s.

Ok, firstly woman rockstar!? Hells yes sign me all the way up.
Secondly, a second chance romance that promises angst, emotion and hopefully the sweetest of heas. Bring it.
Devney Perry definitely delivered.
After a devastating loss brings her back home, Quinn is forced to face all the demons of her past. My heart went out to her because it was not an easy feat when it feels like everyone is against you but her perseverance awed me.
And oh my swooning heart did I love me some Graham. Even when he was hiding behind his cold facade, I was a goner for him. I loved how he cared for his son, I loved his vulnerability and most of all his heart.
Devney Perry you gave me all the feels with this one.

I failed to start the series from the first book ( I am an idiot), but this can definitely be read as a stand alone. I love second chance romances and this one worked really well for me. I loved that for a change the rockstar in the romance was a female and one which is in a mixed band. I loved her love story with Graham and the side story with the rift between herself and her family, 7 her special realtionship with her Nan. It was a solid enjoyable read, something I always expect from Ms. Perry's books :)

Rifts and Refrains has everything that I go for in a book- second chance and single parent books are my jam, and when you add in rock stars, that just puts it over the top!

Quinn, the drummer for Hush Notes, and Graham, a single father, were high school sweethearts. Actually, they were more like soulmates, but Quinn left to pursue her dreams while Graham stayed behind, content with his life. Quinn leaving not only put a rift in her relationship with Graham, but also with her family, especially her father. Nine years later, Quinn returns home for the funeral of the only family member that she still keeps in touch with. This forces them all to face their part in the rift.

I absolutely love these characters! I could feel the tension that Quinn went through throughout the book when dealing with her family. I love the strength that she showed in following her dreams- and leaving the one she loved behind in the process. And I love Graham- the way he loves his son and family was inspiring!

Devney Perry has outdone herself with this book! The writing was spectacular! The emotions flowed throughout, and I cried in many parts~ it just felt so real!

I can't wait to read the other books in the Hush Note series~ Jonah's and Nixon's stories!
