I really liked that they talked things through in the first half, that's what I alwats wanted to read about: what if Elisabeth thought things through and was a bit more practical minded.

Though it's a bit undermined by the second half where Elisabeth somehow takes forever to realise she's in love too? I get that it makes sense, Darcy never has the change of character that he has in the book because here she accepte him at his first proposal, but some bits where so painful, Darcy is so in love with her and she hurts him a lot through all this.

Overall probably my fav retelling so far.

This was so fun! This reimagining is if Lizzie accepted Darcy’s first proposal and the slow burn of them better understanding each other leading up to the wedding. I loved it so much! There’s also an alt ending which I didn’t expect.

Out of most contemporary sequels to Pride and Prejudice this has to be one of the best. Though it feels as if there was quite a bit more dialog than the original, the dialog is, at least, believable. It's a romance story. Darcy is perfect, or near perfect. There are a few portions in which is was so embarrassed for the couple that I hid my own face while reading, which I love about this story!

The part I disliked was that I felt as if the romance got so sappy sometimes, and Darcy so romantic and head over heels in love, that his character was slightly ridiculous. This does not overshadow it's enjoyment factor, however. Darcy's sappiness brought it down 1 star, but the rest was very good.

I absolutely loved this book! To be fair I love anything related to Pride and Prejudice but I think this book did the characters much justice!

The way this book utterly captures the complex characters of Elizabeth and Darcy. While putting a spin on the story, its just SO GOOD! It’s extremely well written, I was never board while reading it!

I’ve always wanted to know about the engagement and everyone finding out about Elizabeth and Darcy. Especially the families lmfao and this book completely filled it!

So good 5/5 absolutely loved it.

Just when you all thought I'd run out of new takes on Pride and Prejudice to review, my mum came through with a cracker of a recommendation. Unequal Affections is a Pride and Prejudice retelling starring all the original characters, with one key point of divergence. Instead of epically telling Mr. Darcy where to go after his first, unbelievably rude, proposal, Elizabeth is so shocked by his unexpected declaration of love that she chooses to accept him, although she is clear that she does not yet return his affection. And so we are left with a cast of beloved characters taking a different route to the same happy ending. It is a testament to Ormiston's knowledge and love of the original text that this feels like a credible alternative to Austen's story rather than a shoddy imitation. While, of course, this can be no substitute for the original, it is a delightful homage for those whose dog-eared copy of Pride and Prejudice needs a break so that it doesn't fall to pieces.

It's basically P&P fanfiction, but oooooh it's such a good one. A great (and in-character!) exploration of a what-if.

Listen… besides a few ooc moments for Darcy and Lizzie, I have nothing really to complain about. This was an incredible read, and though it can’t beat the original, I know I’ve found a favorite retelling. Also closer to a 4.5 star rating
