I loved this book so much. I laughed so hard! These characters are the greatest! The mystery is heavily foreshadowed and easy to guess but it was still great!

"I refused to be interesting..."

That pretty much sums up this book. If i could add one more line to the above it would be "I refuse to use my brain". *sigh*

I didn't pick up this series for the premise, chances are that i might have read something like that before in one form or another blerpwise, and I refuse to judge any and all book(s) by just that. Now the odds of me picking it up in the immediate future where slim, but existed nonetheless.

You might be wondering what did make me do it and do it now. Well the author did. I started one of her other series, "Hot Damned", and I found it to be a mixture of weird, crazy and unbelievable. Couple that with her writing style I found it to be quite interesting to say the least.
So since i liked the "Hot Damned" series, I thought I would pick up another one with my hopes held high. "It might match at least half my expectations" I thought. Sadly that wasn't the case with this book.

The premise is weak. So much so that it breaks simply by having anyone just glancing at it sideways with only one eye open. The female MC - Essie - is stupid, plain and simple. The side characters are way over the top, which the author has already proved could function well, but paired with this stupid female MC it is just a disaster of the “killing millions” variety. Not to mention that absolutely no details about anyone or anything are given what so ever but I will downplay the fact and blame it on the shortness of the book. Hopefully it will be rectified in further instalments.

Now for the mandatory drinking game: You drink every time someone uses the word “Period” to end a sentence. Go!

Boom! You’re dead. RIP you.

You were in AA meetings by the end of chapter 1, maybe even before the end, and you died from alcohol poisoning by the end of chapter 2. Am I kidding? No, no I am not. The amount of times the word is used is unbelievable and ridiculous, not to mention annoying.

I do have to admit there were a few moments in the book were I found myself chuckling to some humorous lines, albeit mild but humour nevertheless. However that did nothing to balance the scales in the books favour.

All in all I did not enjoy this book and as it stands right now I would not recommend it to anyone.
I will read the next books in the series because I am OCD like that. My need to finish whatever I started, no matter how painful or awful it is, is fundamental and build in my very essence.

First book in the Shift Happens series.

This is a humorous paranormal romance with poor character and plot development. There are several caricatures, especially the gay BFF. The male villains have outlandish names that clue you in as to who they are while the female villains all have the same name (distinguished by #1, #2, and #3). Meanwhile, the plot is filled with random and convenient solutions.

From my personal enjoyment, I would rate this 3/5 stars.
As for a more objective rating, even 2/5 stars are generous.
But honestly, what did I expect.

Mostly silly nonsense is the only way I can describe this. It was a cute read on the bus ride home from work and left me with a cheesy grin on my face so... Yay, for mostly silly nonsense! We all need a little of that sometimes, right?

I love snark, furry snark, old snark, fiery snark, sparkly snark, nothing beats a good laugh. If you add a good story, with some heartbreak, back stabbing and kick arse action you have a winning combination for this reader. This book hit that happy spot, I enjoyed it, had fun with these characters and chuckled loudly in public while reading it. I can't believe I almost passed up on this and it was (is still) am Amazon freebie. Hey, the majority of them have been lacking for me. Give it a try, the price is right.
The story. Young woman who is recovering from broken heart is signed to work in her old town where ex-heartbreaker lives as Alpha. This is her home town, where everyone knows her business and where she can't avoid the scandal/drama of her past. She travels with her BFF a flamboyant gay super sexy vamp, who had some of the best lines and wore the best shoes. Granny, her old loving sweet granny who happens to be an ex-stripper lives life to the fullest and offers her granddaughter her nipple-less bras. Yes, wild she is and that little example isn't the most crazy. The heartbreaker jerk Alpha she is recovering from, just happens to be the sherif and the single hottie every warm blooded female in town drools for. She of course earned her lesson. There is danger, romance, arse kicking, back stabbing, fighting, fire, karma, and fun.
I plan on reading the rest of this series and more from this author

This one is a nope.

First, I was annoyed with yet another book where the so-called badass female lead allowed the alpha hero to walk all over her ...despite their shitty history. She goes into this situation, assigned there by their government. She is not subordinate to him, but she allows him to treat her as if she is from moment 1. A badass would have told him "You stopped being in charge the minute you couldn't keep your people from dying. Now, the big boys sent me to clean up your shitshow, so you go have a seat behind your desk while I handle things." But she didn't. She let him set arbitrary rules, withhold info until she passed petty tests, she let him order her to strip in front of him and then laid there while he tackled her and held her down. Given what she thought of him, it was fucking gross, and it made her a spineless asshole. Clearly not someone anyone should respect as a trained agent.

Then, when you found out what caused the split - that the female was just THAT fucking stupid - I was done. She said she believed he was her mate! And she wouldn't even talk to him before disappearing? Some bitches - known bitches - show up at your home with hickies on them, say your mate gave them the hickies, that he's cheating on you...and you believe it without question. And you bolt. Seriously? That was far - far! - from proof. She got played by some bitches. That makes her dumber than a bag of rocks.

She's an asshole. He's an asshole. I don't care about either of them, and don't care to see them reconcile. Bleh.

I received this book as a gift for an honest review. I never read the first edition and this edition says it has added more to the older copy. This is really a novella ad that is fine, the added content was probably a bonus to the over all plot. The story itself was fine, I even liked the idea, but it was the execution that got to me. It could have been edited a bit more as there were a few grammar and spelling mistakes. The over use of slang or urban words of the day weighed down some of the story and were not necessary, they date the story and are not familiar to many people. There were many poor word choices that had me hung up in many places. Also the swiftness of the time line, everything takes place in about 3 or 4 days but at the end the main character is saying a week or weeks? Also the main character left home and joined this agency she works for and in a year she went from a just out of high school young woman to a mature top of her field, many missions under her belt top agent? Not possible, and unbelievable. The characters themselves weren't bad but could have been rounded out just a bit more. As for the gay vampyre best friend, now that was way over the top cliche and rather a bit annoying. All in all it was an okay read, the story/plot idea was good, it was all put out but just a bit too quickly. The characters could use just a bit of fine tuning but their not annoying baring the over the top gay vamp. Could use a little more editing and better word choice and it could be a top notch short story. I would pass this on to a few of my friends. If another edition comes out with a little more work it would get another star.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was fabulous (as always) and I did like the characters (especially Dwayne. He was frickin hilarious). I did feel like this was a bit instalovey. I loved the story and I really didn't want it to end!! I also feel that it is hilarious that the name of the series is Shift Happens. I did feel that it was a bit rushed and could have had a few scenes in between the love and action scenes that would have made it not as rushed and not as instalovey. But it was still a great book that I definitely recommend you check out!

Upon rereading it, I actually don't think it's instalove. It totally makes sense why they really became a couple so quickly. 1. They were a couple before Essie left. 2. They are mates, so they automatically wanted to be with each other. And 3. They had been dating since Essie graduated High School. They have always loved each other and always will. It really is not instalove at all. (And I still burst out laughing when I see the name of the series. It's absolutely hilarious!)
