Loved the atmosphere of the story, the setting and all the superstitions mixed with nature and help saving the planet vibes was pretty good and clever. I also loved how astonishingly real and sympathetic to mental illness is and how it affects us all differently and how it also might help us believe in the paranormal or what we perceive to be odd. What took me away at times from the story were certain characters that I got a bit frustrated at and felt the author was trying a but too hard at certain points to get the plot moving. I may have guessed what happened at the end which deflated me a little but the whole build up was marvellous and I did like the ending definitely tidied up at the end. This is one that will haunt me and I am glad to accept this apparition.

Reaaaally thought I’d enjoy this one, it has all the good points ticked- nordic? Checked. Nanny with pain in the A kids? Checked. Haunted basement in a house nowhere on the radar? CHECKED!!

Sadly i enjoyed only the first half of the book. The latter part should not be that long!! I dragged myself to finish this one. I like the idea, but the execution was a too extensive. The first part was a fast read for me, i was invested to the storyline and got some chills along the way. It was not a bad read, but it could’ve been better (it could’ve been shorter) though the plot was promising, at some parts i was lost in direction. The different timeline was not confusing, but not straightforward either.

But overall it was an average read for me, a bit sad since this books has been in my tbr list ever since it was published.

My second book by the writer, it took me a bit longer because some of the characters were just so punchable (I mean I just wish Sophie was a bit more honest, Tom was just such a conflicting character and I am still not sure if I like him, Derry and Clive, LORD, Maren wasn't the easiest). But you know, that also made the book good in a way. If that makes sense. I love that the book is set in Norway and that we are going back and forth. Slowly piecing bit by bit until we get the truth. And in the mean time we get ghosts, elks saying hi and mysteriously disappearing, red herrings, and there is plenty of spooky things happening, I mean, that Sad Lady and her never ending black eyes? Fuck that, I barely slept thanks to that visual. XD I loved how everything came together in the end though I am still scratching my head on that last epic part with x and Sophie. How did they go so far and end up there?
The two kids were adorable.

On to her third book and hopefully I can get her Arctic book soon as well!

I have to start by saying how absolutely gorgeous this book is. I’ve literally not been able to stop looking at the gorgeous cover. It literally catches the eye and screams out to be read.

I became captivated in this book very quickly, I was desperate for more and absolutely couldn’t put this book down.

There are so many themes present in this one, attempted suicide, deceit of a friend shacking up with Lexi’s ex and that’s before we even meet some of the main characters.

The author has really built the suspense throughout this book. I have been desperate to keep reading and even on those moments that I have had to put this one down, I’ve found myself thinking about it.

This is completely unique to anything I’ve read previously and I’m ashamed to admit, this is my first read by this author. Definitely adding more to the TBR.

Without a doubt a five star read which I highly recommend.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. I felt invested in the story. I liked the characters, the misdirection, the twists and turns.

The two things that I had trouble getting past:
1. The implausibility of Lexi getting away with being Sophie. No one asked for I.D.? Her bank account being in a different name was easily brushed off?
2. Halfway through the book, we find out Lexi has hallucinations? And outrageous ones at that. Her dresser called her a slut...what?! Why wouldn't this be brought up before or after? It would mean she has bipolar or schizophrenia. It would continue since she's not on medication, and would cause all kinds of problems. It's a serious thing, not a random footnote, like "oh, by the way, I'm allergic to latex."

CW: for suicide, self harm, implied abuse.

Decent spooky story. Nothing ground breaking, but it's an easy read. Had some good folk horror elements.
