This style of writing was very fun to read considering the content bc I process and think things similar to Gilda.

Books to read if you need to have a catharsis. It really affected me in a way I didn't really expect. I think it captures really well that sort of spiraling mentality with lies, depression, anxiety, and isolation. I got really attached to the main character. I think this is maybe a right time right place book in the way it got me but I hope others will enjoy too.

this has been the most accurate portrayal of an anxious mind that I’ve ever seen, read, experienced, etc — I guess its true that it might not be for everyone, since anxious people have individual operations goin’ on in these noggins of ours, but I think even if you aren’t *exactly* like gilda, which unfortunately and fortunately for me I am, you’ll still see yourself in her, somewhere, somehow. you might see yourself in her sibling, or her parents who want to sweep everything under the rug, or the priest who has an endless amount of forgiveness in him, or the love interest that is trying, or the high school friend who is protective and fun. everyone you could ever know is in this book, you’re in this book. its funny, its sad, its overthinking, its not thinking about the things you need to think about, its fixation, its lying, its being who you are. its a lot of things, all of them worthwhile. and it’s my new favorite read, definitely.

going into this book, I expected a comical story about an atheist lesbian who starts working at a church by a ridiculous accident. and while those parts of the synopsis are true, I was unpleasantly surprised by the framing of anxiety disorders in the text. proceed with caution: the book may be triggering for someone who isn't prepared to dissect their mind under a microscope.

It took me a moment to recognise the spiral Gilda was going down, but the representations of her mental illness were simultaneously accurate and, in a way, hilarious. I didn’t really like how we were literally in her head though; she was annoying at times (not her fault) and I wished she would stop thinking so much sometimes (which, actually is a good example of what it’s like to be mentally ill among non-mentally ill people).

The ending was inspiring but it felt unaccounted for, like how did
Gilda get from her depressive stupor into being high-functioning
?

I started off reading this book whilst sitting in a hospital waiting room which was probably not the best choice given the levels of existential dread and medical anxiety Gilda experiences literally ALL THE TIME.
There were moments where Gilda’s actions left me confused, shocked, embarrassed but mostly sad for her. This book surprised me tbh; from the opening chapters I thought it would very much send me into a spiral (maybe don’t read it in a hospital), but despite how heavy the themes were, some of Gilda’s musings about life and death ended up being really poignant and there were multiple plot twists I didn’t see coming. Worth reading if you can get past all the trigger warnings!

I thought this book was kind of just....ok? There were some genuinely laugh-out-loud funny moments, and it's nice to read a book where people being gay is just a matter of fact and not whole thing. That said, I felt like the ending of the book was extremely abrupt, leaving a lot left unresolved but with the tone that everything was actually fine now. Gilda's overwhelming anxiety/depression control the narrative to the point where her anxiety was giving me anxiety. I still think it's worth reading but I just don't think it's as good as everyone told me it was!
