I love Frank Lloyd Wright's stuff...and know nothing about his life....so, I grabbed this book.

I LOVED reading the story about Mamah. It struck many a cord...and had me thinking about her difficulties of choosing her life/happiness over her children, but I really respected her story. I also spent a lot of the book wondering how much of it was true...and where the author took her liberties. The end FLOORED me.., but the story kept me enthralled to the end.

The story is about a married woman who has an affair with Wright. The affair becomes her life---and she abandons her family to follow Wright to Europe and then later Wisconsin. It is also about her search for finding her own identity.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about strong woman...or is interested in Wright.

Bravo, Nancy Horan!! Bravo!

I was enraptured with this story from get-go. What a brilliant mind he had. And what a tortured love story they shared. Superb storytelling!

It was slow going early in this book for me- I normally read either non-fiction or legal thrillers, but this one caught on after a while. This book as been described as historical fiction, and indeed it is interesting to get to know more about Frank Lloyd Wright in this depiction. If it hasn't been made into a movie or TV movie, there certainly is enough material to do so, between Mamah Cheney's advocating for the rights of women and the engrossing plot which features Mamah and Frank becoming tabloid fodder (very appropriate given today's media environment- think Kate Gosselin). This is a heartily recommended read- probably the best book I've read this year.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this piece of historical fiction. I found myself getting angy with Frank Lloyd Wright and his personality--but every genius has flaws...
I finished reading the book wanting to learn more about him and this relationship. I am going to the library this week to see if I can find more.

Mamah Borthwick Cheney is a captivating protagonist in this riveting historical fiction novel about the love affair between Mrs. Cheney and American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. I highly recommend.

I thought the story was compelling, the book flowed and held my interest. I appreciated the peeks into FLW's character, his selfishness and ego. The struggle in Mamah, a clear victim of the feminist movement of her time, her ego, and the love of FLW, was very well written.

I really wanted to like this book. It had been recommended glowingly. Historical novel about Frank Lloyd Wright was definitely an intriguing idea. However, neither he nor the female protagonist are likable people, and I found it hard to care about their relationship. The two saving graces of this novel for me are that there is a lot of interesting background info about his architecture and his views on nature and art; also, the ending is definitely worth sticking around for.
