I really wanted to like this. The concept was very interesting. I was deeply disappointed.
The suspension of disbelief that was required made my head ache. The characters were deeply unlikeable. Which isn't usually a problem for me. I really didn't care what happened to any of them. The fat shaming was somewhat unexpected after reading Lyra's perspective first. An overall unpleasant read/experience.

This book is not like anything I have read before i usually do not tend to get into book that contain a lot of science in them. Lauren Oilver was able to bring science into a very cute and suspensive story. As you read in the different perspectives of the two girls you get to meet them and see how they change and learn about their realities and the world around them.

I really loved this book. Both the characters were really lovable. I just wanted to hug and protect Lyra. The only thing that made me dock a star was the fact that it was pretty predictable. The characters are what really made the story. This would have been an easy 5 stars for me, if it wasn't so predictable. However I would definitely recommend it! I read it in alternating chapters and I loved reading it that way. My video review will be up on Sunday :)

The format of this book was really cool but, as often happens with dual perspectives, one was more interesting than the other. Even though it was a cool concept, it tended to get repetitive in places. I read it in alternating chapters and sometimes one perspective would spoil something that happened in the other perspective. It was a little predictable and the foreshadowing was a bit heavy-handed. But a few things did shock me in a good way.
4 stars for Lyra's perspective, 2 stars for Gemma's. Lyra was lovely and I enjoyed her POV a lot, she was such a fascinating and well-crafted character. Gemma was unlikable and there was some weird fat-shaming stuff going on. Like excessively, this girl is thinking about the size of everyone's bodies all the time. She herself insecure about her size, but it was just awkward to read, especially considering how the author has 0% body fat. I'm not sure what she was trying to achieve by making this such a large element of the story but it didn't work. I saw a lot of reviewers say the Gemma was relatable so this could be a case of me being too old for YA, but I did have thoughts about how this book would be potentially better had Gemma been an adult.
The plot was clever and a quick read despite its size, but I think I would have really enjoyed this earlier in my reading journey. It was a fun story and I'm interested enough in what happens next to continue this duology.

Kudos to the cleverness, I loved working my way halfway through the book, and then turning it upside down and reading a new but intertwined story. The author has a lot of fun playing with perspective, and sometimes knowing what had happened in Lyra's story made Gemma's all the more intriguing (sometimes it worked in reverse though - knowing a character's eventual fate made for a disconnect). And the ever unravelling mystery of Haven was compelling. I didn't think about this book much when I wasn't reading it, which is why I have gone for three stars, but future entries in the series will hopefully be worth seeking out.

I have to be honest, "Replica" by Lauren Oliver did not live up to my expectations. I was really excited to read this book, but unfortunately it fell short for me.

The concept of the book was interesting, with the story being told from two different points of view of two girls who are clones. However, the execution of this idea was poor. How does a book about clones end being this boring?

In addition, the characters were not very well-developed and I found myself not really caring about what happened to them. The plot was also lacking in excitement and suspense.

Overall, I would give "Replica" a 2 star rating. While I appreciate the effort put into the unique concept, the execution and delivery of the story left something to be desired.

I think this started a bit slow (but that might be because I alternated sides and chapters) but the plot was really good. Very original idea, but I don’t know I had a bit of difficulty really getting into it so I probably won’t be reading the sequel anytime soon
