I marked this as did not finish after about 20% due to its religious content. Thanks

I did enjoy this book though it wasn't quite what I had expected. It wasn't very clear whether it was a contemporary or historical fiction story. The book takes place mostly in Eastern Europe in modern times. The main character Milja is the youngest member of a family who has been guarding a secret in a mountain. Her father is an orthodox priest and his duty is to guard a creature who is tied to a stone slab and has been for as long as can be rememebered. When Milja is an adult dire circumstances take her back to her home that she had basically been banished from.

She has spent years falling in love with this creature whom she has cared for and pitied. She frees this creature not knowing that she is releasing a fallen angel and that there are those who will do anything to rid him from the earth.

More of a romance than scifi/fantasy. Interesting storyline and would read more this turns into a series.

Not at all what I expected. The darkness of the hero is foiled by the clarity of the heroine. However, she is not naive or innocent. When she frees him she does so in the knowledge that she desires him, and she does not bury it but embraces it. I eagerly anticipate the next installment....

My only criticism of this book is that it should have been longer.

Some spoilers in this review.

As I read the book I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, and I'm still not sure on my feelings about this book. The description really sparked my interest. A fallen angel and a human, sounds great! Then I started reading the book and for everything I really enjoyed there was something I really didn't enjoy.

I liked the religious aspects, it struck a cord with this big Supernatural fan. The idea of fallen angels and this ongoing battle between good and evil is intriguing. That being said, I was really uncomfortable with the sex on the alter in a church. I skipped over that scene.

The scenes between Azazel (the angel) and Milja are hot! But there weren't enough of them. I just couldn't really believe they were falling in love because it seemed like they were never together and when they were together they were either fighting or having sex. I want to see a relationship building and Milja spent more time with Egan.

I also didn't buy the romance, falling in love stuff, because it's said that Azazel has an allure. He can make women fall in love with him. That added to the fact that I didn't see any real foundation for a relationship bothered me, especially the end of the book.

That being said, this book ended with the feeling like there could be more to the story and if that's the case I'll be reading it.

Cover Him with Darkness is a dark and gritty story that keeps you turning pages long after you should have turned out the lights and gone to sleep. For me it felt more like a romance than erotica, there are just a couple of real sex scenes with other mentions but this didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story at all. I really enjoyed it, and as soon as I finished it I was eager to find out when sequels will be forthcoming (no news as yet). Having only read short stories from this author before I had no experience of her novels but if this is an example I will be looking out for more.
The main character, Milja is believable and someone you feel yourself empathising with. You understand her choices, and what motivates her. This was a fascinating look at religious beliefs and fantasy, and you can see how much research the author has done to make events, if not quite believable then realistic.

This book was an unexpected delight. For me it is pure fantasy as I do not believe in Fallen Angels but the 'what if' aspect was excellent.

I suppose this could be considered erotica, but I just didn't feel that it was. The nature of the story of fallen angels and human women was about desire and however conflicted the female lead in the story was, it was a large part of the interaction. So it was a romance which was graphic at times. But for some reason this did not bother me. I think the reason why was because there was soooooo much more going on in the story.

I thought this was a well crafted story that always kept me guessing and I was just not certain of anything until the last page. Great reading and I highly recommend it for people that like dark, speculative, religious fantasy or just dark fantasy.
