Sex and the City with all blonde characters in the Hamptons. I heard audio of Candace Bushnell reading this on salon; it sounded to me like she needed to lay off the coke. Good beach read...

I am a big fan of the 'Sex and the City' TV series and I want to like this novel because of the author, but I struggled to engage. This was mainly due to the massive cultural differences, the woman in this book come from a social sphere I can't even imagine, and I'm not even sure I'd like to visit. I also didn't find any endearing traits in any of the characters and couldn't find any emotional connection to them, some of them are down-right b****s. While I recognise that the characters and setting is true to the New York scene that Bushnell is trying to paint it wasn't one I was able to appreciate as fully as perhaps it deserved.

First off, the cover promised a good dose of chick lit and the synopsis wasn't bad either. But then the trouble started; usually my choice in books isn't so bad and a book by the renowned author of 'Sex and the City' seemed too good to pass. Too bad it was a trashy book.

It will eventually find it way to trash 'cause it is too bad of a book to give it to someone even as a charity read. I wouldn't dare put anyone else through the same torture I went through. It is indeed a miracle that I finished reading it!

Anyhow, the story was about (you guessed it) four ladies who were either trying hard to catch a mate for a summer in Hamptons or trying hard to adjust with a low turnout in expectations from her husband.

It is a purely desperate book and well, the only good thing that came out of was probably that it left me feeling lucky enough not to be a blonde! No pun intended.

I was hoping this book would be great since its the author of sex and the city, but it was terrible! I felt like the book was all over the place and never connected the 4 stories. I struggled to finish this book and really didn't want to, I guess I should of read everyone else's review on this book before I started because it seems like everyone feels the same way about it.

Blonde 1:- Janey in Nice N'easy is a spoilt wannabe celebrity who seems to sleep with men just to get a summer holiday in the Hamptons without having to pay for it herself. Wherever she goes there is a trail of broken hearts and marriages. I really hope people aren't like this in the Hamptons.

Blonde 2:- Winnie in Highlights (for adults) I only got half way through this one before I skipped on. Winnie is married to James although why they are together is anyone's guess. Both are selfish, prone to hate each other and I just wanted to bang their heads Together and say talk to each other and pay some attention to your child.

Blonde 3:- Anonymous in Plamtinum. This is told as diary entries with lots of abbreviations, I can't decide if I'm supposed to be able to fill in names from society or if it's just code. This was an annoying format to read as the initials were hard to keep track of and interrupted the story. No idea what it turned out to be about as I got put off by the initials.

Blonde 4:- Single Process. Comparing English to American society this put me off with its unrealistic view of the English that seemed to not apply to any of the population I've met.

I have no idea where I got a copy of this book from but it's not one I'd go out of my way to buy. It took three goes to get pat the first thirty pages and I wish I hadn't bothered. I suspect if you are into minor celebrities and the only way is Essex or real housewives of New Jersey it may appeal, otherwise avoid. It doesn't even seem as well written as the few episodes of sex and the city I have watched yet it's from the same source.

Ok, this book is written by the same woman who wrote "Sex and the City". Naturally I assumed it would be a fun, energetic read that I would thoroughly enjoy. Especially since the back cover of the book said things like "Hysterical" and such. I was not impressed by this book at all. Ask anyone, I enjoy almost every book I read, but this one didn't do anything for me. It was four stories told separately about four different women. The language was choppy and hard to follow, the characters were one dimmensional, and it was very difficult to become involved in their conflicts. In most of the books I read I find myself sympathizing with the main character and I start hoping that certain things will happen for them. Not the case with this book. I found that the women were bitter, unhappy, angry, rich snobs. I could not relate and did not want to. Some of the books I read have wealthy protagonists, but I feel like I can still relate to them as women. Again, not the case with this book. There was no plot development, no character development, and no story line that I could find. Overall, very disappointed with the book.
