I wanted to like this so much I even restarted it.
But I was so. Bored.

+ No romance was nice.
+ Very little sexualizing characters was nice.
+ Some of the fighting was cool.

- Starting with THAT prologue? Awful and confusing.
- Immediately bombarded with names, locations, and cultures. Let me give a shit about a character first, sheesh.
- Didn't develop concern for any of the characters, except maybe Andry. If a reader can't care about the MC, you're not doing it right.
- 500 year olds surely aren't that naive.
- They traveled so much yet I felt like nothing really happened...

I won't be reading the second. Bleh

This rating might be generous but I REALLY wanted to like this book. However, I didn’t care about any of the plot or the characters. They were, quite frankly, boring, and even 2.5 x audio (which I never do) didn’t make it go by any faster. So disappointing

eh. too slow, and felt like the lead up wasn't exciting enough and it was the whole book preparing for this one thing.

This book was a big, big YES

I can tell Victoria loved delving into a high-fantasy world such as the one she’s brilliantly built in Realm Breaker. In Red Queen, I was always asking for a more intense magic system, and whilst in this book the magic isn’t complex or intricate, it’s balanced in a way that fits so well with its setting.

Pirates, grumpy immortals, badass assassins and bounty hunters, an adorable squire, a comedic relief forger and a wacky witch has the the makings of an amazing series.

I literally closed the book 2 minutes ago and already want more!!!

Oh, and did I mention there is an intense villain-villain romance that I’m absolutely swooning for??

If you need a high-fantasy, high-stakes, amazing storyline with unique characters, read Realm Breaker!! I need Blade Breaker immediately

~I received an arc from netgalley~
This was interesting! This had really great worldbuilding and I really liked the characters and how the characters interacted with each other I loved the dialogue, especially Corayne's she had this very dry humor, like bad stuff happens and she's just like 'well okay then'. I also liked how Aveyard made the "main character" not this all powerful being, because really, she's just a teenager and I think that sometimes that's important in YA books, because yes you should think that you can be a powerful person as a teen, but it's also important to know that nobody starts out that way, so this novel really showed her grow as a person.

This book was, however, really hard to get into. There is such a big info dump at the beginning and it really made me not want to read the book, honestly. I also think the multiple points of view were also incredibly confusing at times, like some of the points of view started off and I'm like confused as to what is going on and who's point of view it is, like I just feel like I wasn't introduced to the characters well enough. Towards the end of the book, I did end up figuring out who and what was going on but it took a while because there was this massive info dump.

So while the worldbuilding was great, I think the characters could've been explained a bit more, there was just so much info being put in my brain that I couldn't actually figure out what was actually going on in the plot. I think if I reread this, I might understand it a bit better, but just from that first read, it was a bit hard to understand everything going on in the book. And this might just be how I read books, someone else might understand the book perfectly! The book itself is just very dense in information.

Let me start off by saying, where’s book two? Loved the wild adventure, the characters, the banter, the quest! Half a star taken because the world building was a bit much and a bit overwhelming. But otherwise, fantastic!

I’d really like to read this one again because I read it when I couldn’t fully concentrate on it so was a bit confused for a lot of the book so I found this review hard to write. However, I did end up really enjoying it.

This was much better than the Red Queen series. It had multiple POVs without being confusing, amazing world building and characters. However, I did feel that it was setting up for the next book. The tropes in this book have been done before and they did feel familiar, but that didn’t take away from the experience of reading it.

I’m looking forward to actually being able to sit down and read this book properly and appreciate the world building in a way that I wish I could have in my first read. I do also have the second book waiting on my shelf so hopefully I’ll be able to go from one book straight into the next one.
