For me this was not a book I would usually pick up on my own to read, but I’m so glad I got this arc because this story was killer!!!! Just when Lexi thought all her struggles were finally over after the tragedy, but little does she know she’ll be entering a whole new world soul-bonded to TWO members of the secret society.

loved the afterlife

Was definitely a slow burn, much slower than I would have liked, it is single POV which I was sad about. The plot got thicker and better as it went on and there was minimal spice. Maybe 2-3 scenes total. I was very ready to DNF it but I am happy I did not because the ending was good and made me want to read the next one, and sad when I found out it’s not out yet.

I am very much a fan of the Redeemed and the Adterlife ideas and how they live on earth with the living ! Pretty freaking cool!

This book was so unique! I’ve been feeling like I’ve book I’ve been reading are all the same, but this one threw me for a loop. It was so good! Lexi was murdered, but was magically brought back to life by something called the Vitae. When she awakened she was thrown into this new life filled with people like her. She quickly realizes that something more sinister is going on with one of the elders (the people in charge).

Secret Society Vibes? ✔️
Supernatural? ✔️
Immortality? ✔️
Ménage? ✔️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I loved this book so much! I read the original book in 2021 when it was still under J Rose. I don’t know if anything was changed in this since it’s been so long since I originally read it, but it was even better this time! If it was changed at all then it wasn’t by much or I feel like I would haven’t noticed lol. It just seemed so much better the second time (and I loved it the first time). This was still very unique. I mentioned that in my original review. I still haven’t yet to read anything like this, even three years later! Lexi is amazing and I absolutely adore both Daniel and Valentine. I can’t wait for the rest of this series! I’m especially looking forward to book three since I’ve technically read book 2 already lol. I am going to refrain from rereading When You Fall (I have the original paperbacks) since I don’t know if anything will be changed. I’m so glad that J is back to writing this series! It’s one of my favorites of hers. This rewrite definitely did not disappoint. I LOVE this cover! It’s so different from the original but it’s so cool and I love all of the details!

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review

It's no secret that the fantasy genre is one of my least favorites, but I think that if someone was going to make me love a story like this madly, without a doubt, it was going to be this author: I really enjoyed the world she built for this story, the main and secondary characters, the plots, the secrets and everything that Lexi discovers about her new life throughout the book. Plus, I love that we can notice the characteristic style of J Rose / Jessalyn Thorn in each of her books.

If You Break is, primarily, Lexi's story, a girl with a heartbreaking story and a complicated life that gets even more difficult when she dies and wakes up as a part of The Redeemed, a secret society of people who managed to live beyond death. One of the things I loved most about reading Lexi, but that also broke my heart, was the love she has for Eve, her little sister who was left alone after her death, but despite that, I really liked that in Felix and Michael she found the friends that she had never been able to have before.

Another part of the plot that I really enjoyed was the way in which The Vitae leads Lexi to meet Daniel and Valentine, two former best friends with a very interesting past that unites their lives in a very painful way and that complicates the feelings they both have for Lexi a little more. I think I can say that, so far, Daniel is my favorite: I really like how everything starts between him and Lexi, how he's able to be vulnerable and let her know his insecurities regarding his feelings, but what I loved most about Daiel was reading him showing his love even when he tries to stay away from Lexi and how in those first interactions she is not afraid to let him know what she thinks.

Of course, that doesn't mean that I haven't fallen a little in love with Valentine as well, particularly with his attempts to resolve his past with Daniel, and the ease with which he accepts his bond with Lexi, I love that Valentine is the more carefree and flirtatious of the two, that he still has a story to tell about his past and the origin of The Redeemed and I'm dying to kno whow the relationship he shares with the other two main characters, and with his brothers, will continue to develop.

One of the main reasons why I didn't enjoy the fantasy much is because, sometimes, the construction and explanation of the world where the story takes place overshadows the love story a little, BUT in If You Break that didn't happen: it's the perfect balance between the two worlds and, without a doubt, the plot is one of the best things this story has. The secrets that Lexi discovers about herself and the new world she inhabits hooked me on the story from the beginning, the twists that the author gave to the plot were great and the ending left me needing the next book right away and creating a lot of theories in my head.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I went into this book blind, I mean, I don't even remember signing up for the ARC. I have to admit it took me a little bit to get into it, although that was because I have not read a book like this before. The whole redeemed confused me. I am so glad that I gave it a good go, though, as I ended up loving this book. Daniel and Felix were my favourites, I wanted to punch so many of the male characters in the throat

ARC review.

First and foremost I’m not a PNR reader. It really has never been my thing but anything J Rose puts out regardless of the pen name or genre, I’m gonna read it.

If You Break sucked me in from the first page. I love broken and battered FMC that come into their strength and are just all around badass and don’t take it from anyone. But Lexi got thrown into another world that she didn’t ask to be in and was just amazing. She’s tough, ruthless, and doesn’t take any shit. And like a phoenix rose from the ashes of the shitty life she was dealt.

Daniel, got me with “you needed me more.” Swoon, that big old complicated mess of a man is drool worthy. And I’ll always love a Spanish man. I can’t wait for more, especially the banter with Valentine and Daniel.

The slow burn was slowwwww burning perfectly.

“That monster took something that wasn’t his. Your life belongs to you, and if it’s the last thing I do on this mortal plane, I will convince you that you deserve the fucking world.”

I was lucky to get an ARC copy of Jessalyn Thorn's book If You Break.

Jessalyn Thorn is J Rose's paranormal romance/fantasy pen name.

J Rose is an auto-buy author for me. So, I was excited to try something different from her.

If You Break is an urban fantasy ménage romance and is book one in The Redeemed series. I have not read any urban fantasy before, so this was a first for me.

I enjoyed the book's premise and thought the story itself was unique.

My heart broke for Lexi and everything she has been through and experienced. She went through absolute hell. How much pain and suffering can one endure?

Even after everything she has endured, the only reason Lexi keeps fighting is to protect and care for sister Eve.

I loved Daniel and would have been perfectly happy if he stayed her only love interest. The way he cared for Lexi when she had that panic attack was just the sweetest. The more I learned about his character, the easier it was to fall in love with him. My heart broke for him when I learned about the heartbreak and loss he has suffered.

There is something about two broken people that gets me every time, and I could not help but love Lexi and Daniel.

I had a love-hate relationship when it came to Valentine. I am unsure what to make of him. He has not done anything to win me over yet. It will be interesting to see whether my thoughts on him change with book two.

I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in book two of the Redeemed Series.

Thank you so much to Jessalyn Thorn and @valentine_pr_ for this ARC
