This was an easy short, fun read that I got through within a couple hours.

The story is set in Phoenix Arizona which was surprising but fun considering that's my home town. It mostly tales place at a high school and we follow a rag tag group of teens as they try to navigate a 'zombie' outbreak.

It was ok. The premis was good and the execution was alright. There were multiple plot elements that seemed to he set up that lead nowhere.

*spoilers*
Chad and Travis' deal-Laura's meds-Chad's car being outside the gates. All of these things either didn't actually matter or just didn't go anywhere. In the begining there is an established "crush" between Chad and MacKenzie but there was this vibe and tension between Travis and Chad that made me think that there was going to be a reveal that Chad was in the closet....like I was actually pretty shocked that is just...didn't go anywhere and became this more "reluctant truce"-thing instead. Then Laura having the pills.....that just didn't end up being anything-they dont end up getting them so Chad ends up turning and I get it but at the same time I was kind of like....why even bring that up if you're not going to do anything with it. I get that it was like this other reason to go find Laura but they were going to do that anyways. Lastly, the fact that Chad's car is outside the school is set up in the begining and I knew it was going to be important and it does.....sort of, they do end up trying to get to Chad's car but in the end it didn't matter because Brain's (the MCs) mom ends up being there to save the day so like....the whole car thing I guess gets them out of the school but ultimately didn't mean anything. I guess my only and main issue with this story is that it set all these things up for them to mean nothing. I at least wanted the pills to like...be something, you know?

But I still had a good time reading, it's mindless fun.

Sorry, but glittering zombies??? No, just No. Kthnxbye~

I already didn't like that Twilight made glittering vampires (it was soooo hilarious at times), but now we have GOLDEN glittering ZOMBIES... Like what the hell? Did not Finish.

This was an interesting quick read. In a jam-packed genre this is a difficult market to write a memorable book but Tom Leveen has done a fairly good job.

It's a fast paced book with some interesting characters ... a group of teens banding together to try and avoid a zombie apocalypse but it doesn't break any new ground.

Worth a go, but if you're short on cash get it from the library as it porbably won't be one to add to your collection.

While these zombies are not your typical ones, they are menacing nonetheless. This story takes place within a few hours time period, in a school that has become locked down during a zombie takeover. The misfits end up having to hang out and bond together with the drama geeks, and putting aside their differences in order to survive.

I usually like books where all the action takes place in a short time period, because that means things are very intense. Emotions run high in this book, but I just didn't feel like the main character was working towards a really big goal. Like, for the entirety of the book after the zombies came, his main idea was just to get his sister and his ex girlfriend to where he was. And at times I felt like he cared more for his ex than his little sister!

The one thing I liked was his best friend, who provided some much needed comic relief. I was sad when the end happened the way it did.

I read this book fast, but I dunno, it just didn't leave me stunned. The monsters were original, though, and that is always refreshing to see.

'Sick' has a tagline of "Breakfast Club meets The Walking Dead" and it's not too far off the mark, but that might be an exaggeration. It's a pretty decent YA zombie book, but it has a pretty abrupt ending.

Brian, Chad and friends are good at ditching school and getting over the high fence. Brian's ex has gotten up the courage to go to the school assembly (she freaks out in crowds), but Brian is ditching her too. Outside of school, they see their friend Hollis who has gotten sick. Something is not right. They head back to school and their drama class when all hell breaks loose. It's gory and tempers are short. Racist comments find their way out, unfortunately. Brian's mom works for a hospital and that's how we get our news about how widespread this seems to be and what it might be. Brian wants to rescue his kid sister and his ex-girlfriend and get out. He's stuck with a cheerleader, a drama student, his gung-ho friend Chad, who is joining the military, and other kids who just don't normally get along. Will they survive without killing each other first?

I liked it, but I didn't love it. The zombie bits were good, but the standing around in a hallway and figuring things out parts got tedious. Maybe that was the point. The final scene happens, then it just suddenly ends. There is at least one plot point left wide open. Perhaps for a sequel?

I was given a review copy of this ebook by ABRAMS, Amulet Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

High school is a place where many kids feel like they just don't fit in. That is definitely true for Brian and his friends, a collection of misfits who decided to skip a few classes they day of the school pep rally. They get back to school just in time for stagecraft class, and for a deadly virus to take hold of their school. A strange sickness has rapidly spread, something that gives people a drawn, wasted look and develops crusty scales, oh- and it gives the infected person a taste for human bone. Ground zero is the pep rally, but the theatre building is farther away and able to be protected. It's too bad that Brian's sister and ex-girlfriend decided to go to the pep-rally, now Brian has to find a way to get the girls out of the zombie infested hallways as well as the stagecraft class.

This is a very fast-paced young adult zombie outbreak story that does not skip on the gore and held me in suspense. Centered in a high school with high schoolers as the only uninfected people left, I was really interested to see how high school dynamics would go into play. Especially since this high school was overcrowded, had a lot of racial tension and general intolerance of anyone who is different. Luckily, this group of survivors is centered in the theatre, where different is the norm. When any differences are brought up, they manage to be quickly resolved or changed in the minds of the teenagers for the benefit of survival. I was really interested in the virus itself and I got a little bit of information on it through Brian's mom, who was on the first response team. I did want to find out if there was a cure and how it began. The book really just focused on the outbreak itself and how this small group of highschoolers was able to survive. There were some very awesome moments of zombie smackdowns and creative weaponry, but there was no resolve after the teens were rescued from the school.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.
