Hits all the buttons I look for in a detective mystery. GREAT MC--Bosch is hard to beat. Intricate plot. Good commentary about the social and political climate of the time the book was written. Worthy subplots that aren't just tossed in but have an effect on the characters--especially Bosch and his troubled marriage to Eleanor Wish. Well-crafted and devised red herrings. Good plot twists that make sense and are believable. Smoothly integrated backstory.

One of the better Connelly books featuring Harry Bosch that I've read (roughly half of them to date). You gotta read this one if you're a Connelly/Bosch fan.

Michael Connelly does it again

This is seriously the best crime series I’ve read. The atmosphere just feels real and the tension mounts. There’s several mysteries involved and each has its moment. I can’t wait for the next book.

Another great entry in the Harry Bosch universe. Man, he's my kind of detective, but he really can't catch a break with his love life. Poor Harry! I love Bosch because he's lawful good, a kind of everyday Joe who fights for justice and just can't keep his mouth shut when things aren't right. He's one of my book boyfriends. Love them smart, gruff, and principled, I guess.

We have a couple of murders. One with a hot shot lawyer who loved suing cops. And a poor innocent lady in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's a complicated plot, and I have to be honest, I guessed way wrong on this one. I was surprised at the twists, so well played, Connelly. Bosch is awesome, and if you aren't reading this series, start at the beginning and get reading. You can thank me later.

Loved it!! Listen to the audio book. Dick Hill is awesome!! So perfect for this series. I was about ready to give up on Bosch. Seemed like all he could do was be in trouble. But this book changed it for me!! Home run Michael Connelly!!

Harry Bosch book 6 and a cracker of a read . Harry is in the middle of the night called into investigate the murder of a prominent civil right lawyer , notorious for suing LAPD he is due to start a high profile trial. As Harry is no longer in robbery and homicide he and his two clooegaues have to tread very carefully as it seems top brass want to pin the crime on a police officer to quell simmering racial tensions at the end of the 1990's which has seen the Rodney King riots, the OJ Simpson trial and a police force seen as racist. A real page turner, told with pace , and a flawed lead detective who will keep me hooked for many books to come.

Bosch gets called in the middle of the night. The victim was hated by pretty much all the police.

Connelly takes on race issues here, like in some of his other Bosch stories. Here, though, it's more central. Wasn't expecting it. I'm also not sure what I think of Connelly's treatment. I like that he's addressing these issues in story form, but Bosch is too much of a white savior.

In the era of black and blue lives matter, it is interesting to see riots, police brutality and internet technology from a pre-Google lens.
