A PNR novel through and through with dragons! Oh, how I love dragon paranormal books!

Waking Dragon captivated me from the start. In fact, I finished in one day!

Two main points that made this book so good was Juliette Cross's easy style of writing and the sex scenes. Yep, those sex scenes definitely hit the top spot on my list.

A new go to author for me. If you love PNR you're going to love Juliette Cross.

Wrecked. This book was incredible. Let me preface this review by saying that I have not read any of the other novels about the Morgon men... but now I want to.

I love books with strong female leads and even stronger alpha men. This book does not disappoint in that arena. Moria is used to being independent.. borderline reckless and all in the name of journalism. Kol is as dominant as they come and is used to getting his way with everyone. They couldn't have butt heads any harder if they tried. But with each run in the sizzle just got that much better.

The writing and world building are as amazing as Cross' character clashes. Nothing about this book disappointed. If you love strong alpha dragon men, please step up to this plate. This paranormal romance is 100% worth every second of your time.

2.8 stars but characters push it to 3 stars
I had some serious issues with this one.
For started the rapes. I really dislike using raping as a plot device.
I found the characters and the world interesting. I did feel like I was missing some information but not enough to detract from the story. Come to find out there is a prequel series.
Moira is a feminist and independent from her father's control and money. She handled herself well for the most part. She could be a bit reckless but always had good intentions. Kol is the brooding dominant male. So I expected the head butting and tension and wanted it. Unfortunately their romance felt rushed since they didn't have enough interactions. I didn't see the sparks, it was just there all of a sudden and I felt cheated out of some epic romantic tension. He also went from gruff to saying things like he couldn't live without her far too fast without having the time together to feel real. I wanted to believe it but it just fell flat.

captivating

As an investigative reporter for her college paper, Moira is investigating the brutal gang rape and murder of several human women.

She comes up with the idea to present herself as bait, to try and take them out from the inside. Obviously this means she needs help so she approaches her brother-in-law who just so happens to run a morgon security company. And who better to keep her safe from a morgon abduction than their own kind? Because let’s be honest, humans are no match for the half-dragon species.

Of course it’s just her luck to get partnered with the largest, coldest morgon she’s ever met, Kol.

There was a lot of testosterone flying around this book. The morgons are a very dominant species and the males - or at least all the ones in Moria’s life - are super alpha. Quick to fight, eager to screw. And once they find the one? There’s almost no stopping a claiming.

Moira was so strong and brave and sassy, but I like that she was also vulnerable and scared. It made her a three dimensional character. Relatable.

And Kol was so cold towards her at first. I guess trying to fight his instincts. But he was dominant, protective, and caring. Undeniably sweet in his own way once he let his walls down.

I kept thinking something was going to come of her having extra height and different eyes to the rest of her family, but it was almost never mentioned again after the initial acknowledgment. But this is only the first book in a series so perhaps something may come out later on.

Damn was the big bad freaking terrifying though! No.thank.you.

Good book, especially for a first in series. Definitely a good evil villain.

Waking the Dragon has a world with two different species inhabiting a world that is mostly segregated; one species is human and the other being a human dragon hybrid called Morgons. As with any segregated society you’re going to have a lot of prejudice. Gladium Province is the only province where the two species intermingle freely and of course there are those that would like to stop that from happening.

Our mcs are Moira Cade a human and Kol Moonring a Morgon. The story centers around their romance that is a bit on the insta side but seems to mesh alright. Moira inserts herself into an ongoing investigation that Kol is running that deals with a serial killing group of Morgon’s. Being thrown together was not Kol’s plan but he doesn’t have a lot of choice and he makes the best of it. This killing group is extremely violent; Moira gets kidnapped by them uncovering a far larger plot than originally thought.

This was an entertaining read and there is lots of potential moving forward. This would be an adult book for extreme violence; all victims but one is raped.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

I enjoyed this book. It had a good fast-paced plot, fun banter, and just enough heat. Moria and Kol were really good together. I liked that they had parallel hang ups about romance and forever. This book also set up an overarching problem to be resolved over the course of the series. I’m excited to see what happens next.

I was still left with some questions on world building. The book gave more than the prequel but I wanted just a little bit more. After finishing, I found out that there was a three book series before this one so I’m wondering if I should have read that first. I’m not sure how much order matters but I’m going to continue reading this series and then circle back to the other one.

2.5.
Gosh. This book has so so so so so much potential and that’s how it started out.
The world building and the story was so interesting and cool and I like the characters (pretended she was like 25 instead of 20).
But…
The pacing is off in this book. It felt like 45% of the book happened off-page, and not in a good way.
Idk if it was a crappy editor who screwed the author over or what, but the pacing is. So. Off.
No “breathing” places. Action after action. We need more moments to get to know the characters, and for the characters to get to know each other.
It all happens in like a week- very much insta-love but even more than that.
It feels like a lot of things in general was just skipped and cut. Which brings down my score.
It had so much potential fr. I loved the murder mystery, wish it would have been investigated more as to why or how but it’s just brushed over.
It just feels like it was put through a slicer and again- not in a good way.
The book should’ve been 20-30% longer with moments of quiet and to get to know them.
She went from “I’m better than other girls and don’t sleep around” to her wanting him in like 2 pages.
It just made it hard to connect or root for them. Feels like I don’t even know them or how it happened after finishing the whole book.
Sad. Because I loved the set up and how the story could’ve evolved. The relationships as well.
