I'm only giving this three stars because I'm not sure how I feel about the characters yet, and the plot was predictable. However I enjoyed the story, and will continue the series to see what happens.

I really enjoyed it actually, and I think because of Daniel. I just hope that the next book isn't going to ruin the series for me, because I just do not like Cam.

The author
Lauren Kate grew up in Dallas, went to school in Atlanta, and started writing in New York. She is the author of Fallen, Torment, the forthcoming Passion, and The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove. Her books have been translated into over thirty languages. She lives in Laurel Canyon with her husband and hopes to work in a restaurant kitchen and learn how to surf. She is currently at work on the final book in the Fallen series, Rapture.

The synopsis
Lucinda 'Luce' Price is a seventeen year old girl from Georgia. She previously attended a private school in New Hampshire before the court ordered her to be relocated to a boarding school for "troubled" youth, after an incident which left her alive and a boy dead. When she first enters Sword & Cross, she realizes how much her life will change. There are cameras watching her every move and there are strict rules regarding contact with the outside world. On her first day, she meets Arriane Alter, an excitable and enigmatic girl who immediately takes a liking to Luce, the handsome Cam Briel and the fascinating Daniel Grigori, who seems to have mixed feelings for her when he smiles and then flips her off. She also meets Penn, the daughter of the now deceased undertaker. Luce also makes enemies with Molly.
With Penn she starts an investigation on the mysterious Daniel Grigori, while the handsome Cam is trying to make a move on her. Fighting her own ghosts and those of the school she has to decide which guy she wants more and what is Daniel hiding anyway.

The review
Curious why a book with so many bad reviews can be on the bestseller list for ages, I decided I wanted to read this book. An d I have to admit I am a sucker for covers like this.
I can understand why people dislike this book. The story is kind of messy and leaves a lot of things unexplained. I never got why she was really send to the Sword & Cross school, cause I cannot imagine that surviving a fire would do that but she did not get a psychological code either according to what Penn says at some point. There are more loose ends like that throughout the story.
Still I think the whole setup of the story is very nice. It is not all supernatural, there is a lot of attention for the “normal” problems of disturbed teenagers.
I think the end could have been more interesting. When she finally discovers the truth about Daniel there is so much more to it which is ignored, even though it is said it will be explained to her later.
The pace of the story does not really leave me with the idea I just read about 400 pages either.
I was doubting between 2or 3 stars for a while, but had to go for two stars because there are to many loose ends in this book. The story is interesting enough though to continue to the second one.

Nebylo to špatný, ale moc mě to nebavilo. Chvílemi jsem se opravdu nudila, ale když jsem knihu chtěla odložit, jako by to vycítila a byl tam moment, kdy to bylo opravdu zajímavé.

Luce is sent to a reform school because a boy she got close to went up in flames. Quite...
For obvious reasons she wants to keep this quiet. When current students try to befriend her it's evident that they have somewhat ulterior motives, though we're pretty clueless about what they are. Very quickly we're into rather obvious territory of two potential love interests and a hint of something mysterious going on.
The three star rating isn't because I disliked the book. It was entertaining enough, but I got frustrated by Luce's willingness to get into crazy situations with no explanation and the lack of answers.
Do think book two might prove more interesting.

Finally read this one and it was alright. I have certainly read worse in YA paranormal romance. Typical girl falls in love with paranormal boy who say they can never be together story. I owed have ate this up when I was a teen and probably would have rated a 4 back in the day. Interesting enough to keep even and adult reader, well, reading. Characters are solid and not too teenage dramatic. I will be picking up the second one.

The story could be better, but it's okay. The big problem here is the writing. Lauren Kate kept writing the same sentences in other ways over and over and it's annoying.

I first want to say, that this book, for me, was a perfect example of not judging a book by it's cover. I wasn't a huge fan of the outside, but the story inside was fantastic!!

This was only the third angel book that I've read, and they are quickly turning me into a paranormal romance fanatic!

This book was such a fast-paced, dark mystery. I loved all of the mysteriousness of the setting and all of the characters. I really liked the prologue and how it showed so much foreshadowing. Towards the end of the book, the story became a little predictable at points. I still really liked reading how the end played out.

Luce and Cam where my favorite characters. Luce was a girl that seemed out of place in her surroundings, yet still proved to stay strong and try to blend in. I liked how she meets new friends and soon starts to feel like she's fitting in and belongs. I liked Cam from the first page that I read with him on it. As the book progressed I started to get mixed feelings about him, and becoming more of a Daniel fan at the end. What I did like about him, was his friendly and goofy personality. At some points I found him a bit pushy, which I didn't like. I liked Cam because of the depth of his character.

Overall, Fallen was amazing. I'd recommend this book to those that like paranormal romance and lot's of dark mystery! I am so excited to continue on reading the series!

Reading this book for the second time has not changed my feelings for it. No matter how many books I read, this is still one of the best books. It's actually one of the first YA books I've read after twilight and even before the hunger games. No matter how many books I read, no matter how many new subjects I come across; angels will always be something I can't read enough about. Something about them is just so interesting and it's a mysterious, appealing thing I can't quite explain.

A lot of people think this book is rubbish because Lauren Kate didn't do enough good research. But, and I say this out of experience because I've already read the others, if you continue this series you will see that she did at least a little bit of research, fascinating and interesting research. The way she describes the fall later on or the position of the Archangels, it's intriguing and I guess I'll be spending some time on the Internet to do some good old own research. I've always loved doing my own research after reading something random, from elemental power to healing chakra's, I'm a weird person - I know - it won't really stop me from doing the research I love to do. To learn more about something most people don't even take a second glance at, to learn more about something you don't really know anything about. Just to learn about something you're interested in.
