Overall, the series was okay. The third book seemed 80% unnecessary. Emma could be quite annoying but I stuck with it because I knew an end was in sight and was sort of interested to see how it all played out. For such lengthy (in YA/NA terms) novels, I expected a much better conclusion. Instead I hit like 96% done and was still wondering about some big things. Then the epilogue was like the lamest ending ever for a book that was so heavy on romance.

5 Out of Breath Stars

I read a few reviews before deciding to do mine. Here is why. A lot of people didn’t like how this book turned out.

I am of the belief it turned out just the way it needed to.
No I didn’t think Emma was selfish for any of her choices, what we need to remember is her life was complete poop for so long. Should she have opened up sure but she didn’t think she could or that she was worth it.

She didn’t believe anyone could lover her let along forgive her.
Did she make dumb choices sure, who doesn’t at that age. Especially someone who has a past like she did.

Also I know a lot of people didn’t like that she used Cole or alcohol but people Cole KNEW she couldn’t give more she told him, over and over again.
Alcohol numbed the pain in her heart and silenced the voices for a short time so it’s no wonder she didn’t try someone worse.

Thank god for Sara, and all the girls really they kept her from really going off the deep end.

Evan, what to say about him. No I don’t think he forgave to fast. This is 2 yrs. later he knew, he KNEW she was the one for him. So when the time came he was going to be there for her whether she wanted him to or not.

(view spoiler)

So for me over all I thought this was a perfect ending to these books and again, I am going to gush about this narrator because she did a spectacular job!

( Original Review from 2013- This series took my breath away. I don't know how to recover from it my self. If you haven't read them then you simply MUST. )

There are many novels out there that area entertaining and fun and compelling but not many of them touch your soul... but this book does. It is an extremely honest story that rips at your soul and makes you bleed, but it also heals you and makes you realize that life is precious and that we have to fight to live it, everyday.

Read this series, it is by far one of the best I have ever read.

First, I just have to say that maybe using italics to symbolize flashbacks, inner monologues, and a different characters POV was probably not a good idea and whoever let this go to publishing like that should be fired. That alone lost it a full star. I should not be confused when it switches POV's. Also, the switching didn't need to literally be every other paragraph. This really threw the flow of the book off and it just frustrated me instead of keeping me engaged.

Now, to the actual plot. Emma's in California dealing with her stupid decisions (obviously, not well) and still pushing away everyone around her. How this girl has friends, I will never know. She is literally the worst person ever. But yet, she has this amazing group of girls around her who coddle her and love her. WHY? Stop coddling her and force her to deal with her shit. Girl needs therapy not warm hugs.

The one thing I didn't want to happen obviously happened because this is a romance book where the MC can be as horrible as she wants and still get everything she wants. So, yes, Evan came back.

Evan, sweetie, you are so much better than her. Please figure this out and move on.

While I didn't like this one as much as the first, I also didn't hate it as much as the second. The drama is over the top, the conflicts ridiculous and could have been easily solved instead of dragged out for an entire book, and Emma still made stupid ass decisions and walked around the whole books with the 'woe is me' attitude and "I don't deserve to live'. Gag me. And why the hell did Jonathan have to make an appearance??? Oh wait, drama. I have no clue why these books have such high ratings here. The only reason I gave it the second star were the side characters, mainly Evan's friends and Serena. Other than the side characters and sometimes Evan, this series didn't have a whole lot going for it.

Wow….this book…this SERIES was amazing. but boy am i glad it’s over….i didn’t know what the word for it was before i started reading fanfics heavy, but now that i do, LORD do these books have a lot of angst! But it’s a good angst because it keeps you at the edge of your toes, constantly wondering how things are going to work out.

In this book…we find Emma broken, and what other way would she be after two years away from the one person she loves more than life itself? (ugh she’s so stupid sometimes) — she’s just going through the motions of life at this point and is keeping all her dark secrets and painful memories buried deep, but one day they’re all released and she just takes hit after hit after hit, and it takes everyone around her to keep her head above the waves the threaten the snuff the life from her body.

This book was so good, but it was so FRUSTRATING! at first i thought Rebecca was going to take us down a predictable road when Emma started with the drinking… *rolls eyes* but just like Emma….the book took a completely different turn and i found myself really wondering how the HELL this series was really going to end.

Evan….my love Evan. he is the TRUE definition of a ROD, because after seeing all the stuff he saw with Emma, and being in the situations she put him in…its a wonder he can even stand to be around her anymore, but he loves her with all he has, and plays a huge part in bringing her back from the land of being, to the land of living.

This was a really good trilogy, definitely worth the hours lost from staying up to read just ‘one more’ chapter lol. yea right. AS IF!

Side note (spoiler): I LIKE COLE! …. and i don’t know what this says about me of how i feel about Evan really but, i wouldn’t have minded if he and Emma really hit it off.

It has been well over a year (maybe even two) since I read the first two books in this series. & reading the 3rd one was a tad challenging at first simply because I had to put these characters back in my mind again after so long. But, I didn't forget what the story was about, its truly unforgettable.
Out of breath was everything I wanted, didn't know I wanted, & nothing like I expected lol. Evan is goals. Literary boyfriend perfection = Evan Mathews.
This book was just so achingly beautiful & I couldn't put it down at all. I think I held off on finishing this series because I didn't want it to end.. But, I'm more than content with the ending, so it's okay.
This story just proves that its okay to admit you have monsters, but you still have to find a way to breathe.

Thank you Rebecca Donovan.
