Received from Xpresso Book Tours

I didn't expect to like When Stars Come Out as much as I did. My favorite thing about it was the mythology, it was very thought out and I haven't read anything like it. I loved slowly discovering the magical system with the characters.

Anora and her mom move to another town to get away from horrible rumors. Anora is determined to start anew, to forget all that happened before and live her life in peace. but all that goes to shit when she sees the dead girl hanging in front of the school. When confronted with the ghost her powers take over. When she loses the precious object, it all goes horribly wrong.

It's such a complex story, full of twists and turns, mysteries and amazing powers.

I love Anora, there is such bad-assery to her. She doesn't like to be bossed around. She is untrusting to everyone but still manages to make few friends. I like the way she handled, all that happened to her. And the romance is very good. There is no insta love or straightforwardness. :)

When Stars Come Out is a start of what is going to be an amazing series (I'm sure :)). I enjoyed reading it very much.

Truly I did not finish this book, I have 100 pages left but it is psychically painful to keep reading. Also, goodreads has the wrong page count but it is what it is.

Really didn’t stand out for me. The writing was decent and I’m sure other people would enjoy it but I truly don’t care for high school settings. And teenagers experiencing adult level relationships is weird to me.

I love other work from this author and will continue to support her but next time I’ll do more research before I pick up a book.

It’s a nice story
but I knew Thane & Lennon were behind everything from pretty early on. I will say I didn’t know she was an “abomination” but the rest was pretty easy to catch.

3.5 Stars- This is a little bit hard to rate and review for me. I found some aspects to be a bit underwhelming, BUT at the end of the day I enjoyed it and want to see where this goes! I found the concept really intriguing. An Orpheus and Eurydice retelling (although I’d say very loosely-maybe it will tie in closer in the sequel), a girl who can see ghosts and struggles with this ability as it clashes with the normalcy she craves, and a race of Valryn-an order of human/raven shifters who’s job it is to protect humans from otherworldly creatures and to find the Eurydice because only the Eurydice can open the gates to the underworld and herd the souls through (holy run on sentence sorry!)

The story was action packed and the pacing was quick (which is great). I think my issues primarily stem from a lack of depth. I feel the events of the plot outpaced character development and world building. The characters fell flat for me and I would have liked more insight into the world of the Valryn.

Despite that, I’m excited to see where this goes!

Thanks Sourcebooks Bloom and NetGalley for the eArc!

Started out real intriguing but by the end it felt very standard for ya paranormal to a degree that it was boring and left me feeling kinda cheated by how interesting the beginning was. The romance between the two main characters was also one of those fated reincarnation deals and felt very forced, couldn't say what they like about each other really.

Anora has these abilities and has no clue why, or what she's supposed to do with them. She knows she sees dead people, and captures spirits into coins. From there, she has no idea, until she attends a new school and discovers more people can see the dead. The truth about who she is and her abilities eventually come to light.
I enjoyed this! The story was captivating, and I didn't want to put it down, needing to know what happened next. I can't wait to read the next book.
