2018 Modern Mrs. Darcy Summer Reading Guide
https://modernmrsdarcy.com/summer-reading-guide-2018/

I just finished reading I’ll Be Your Blue Sky and loved it. I never read any of the other books in the series so I was not familiar with any of the characters and I don’t think it detracted from the story at all. I guessed the ending pretty early on but it sure was fun getting to the big conclusion.

I give out 5 stars sparingly. This was the perfect summer read. If you like delightful characters, romance that isn't overt or in your face...romance that is really better described as sacrificial love...AND deep themes, this is your book. It is thread together by the unraveling of a mystery that keeps the reader guessing. If you need a book for poolside or on your back deck in the heat of the summer, pick this one up. It's even set by water you can imagine canoeing in right along with them.

What an odd book. I'm starting to get frustrated by authors that have great historical fiction concepts but ruin them by telling a mediocre present-day tale instead of focusing on the historical story. That's exactly what happened with this book as the author forced this into her odd "series" based on these characters. Clare's story was predictable and forced and I was frustrated by the lack of Evelyn story, especially at the end of the book when everything switched to Clare. Everything ended so conveniently that it almost made a farce out of women in real domestic abuse situations. I hope the author is able to put these characters away now and move onto something else.

I loved the first 2 books in the series, although I don't remember the details after the fact. This is the same. Definitely enjoyed reading it and was excited to pick it up. You don't need the first 2 books to pick this one up either. But if you asked me to summarize the plot, I would have a hard time pulling those details back. Great for a brain break, vacation, beach, etc.

(Copied these notes from when I read this book. Not a full review)

Preferred Edith’s story to Clare’s, especially as the book goes on- Edith’s chapters feel so alive, while Clare’s chapters seem to become more and more of a Nancy Drew book with a bland love interest. I was ready to skip Clare’s chapters by the end.

Loved how all the characters tied together

Didn’t love conversations between Dev and Claire (joke, joke back; elbow, elbow back; flirt, flirt back)

Didn’t need to read the paragraphs of names and quick explanations of who each person was (I assume they were characters from other books in this series, but they added nothing). We had a lot of relevant characters in Edith and Clare’s story, so info about uncles and moms felt forced and unnecessary

Lovely story of home life in 50s, really touching

Plot easily predicted, but not in a bad way- we were just ready for the end when it came.

Clare is back, and in a state of total anxiety about her upcoming wedding. I guess it's realistic that people in relationships may be blind to what's going on in them. Zach was so obsessive and so creepy that it was really upsetting to watch Clare keep trying to talk herself into staying with him. Especially when it's *so* clear that Dev is her soul mate. I felt that this was unusually heavy-handed for this author, whose other work I adore. Taking it right up to the wedding before Clare breaks it off, really? And her persistence in ignoring her feelings about Dev makes it harder for me to sympathize with her. And maybe it's just me, but when plot lines and family histories started getting complicated I had a hard time following who was pairing off with who when and having which offspring. I don't know. I adore Ms. de los Santos' work but this one is far from my favorite.
