Beautiful. Amazing. Unusually thorough bibliography for the format.

I'm just not sure who the audience is for this in my life. Also, I kept thinking that the changing office would contain clues to the culprit, but... the culprits were just random? I sometimes like it when a picture book has little things for the adults- like the office decor- but also feel like it was a missed opportunity to have something for the kids, and then it feels like a children's book more for adults. That might just be me. But I do appreciate that this felt sort of like a chapter book for picture book readers, which is a really neat concept I'd like to see explored further.

More Baby Monkey, PLEASE!!

Clever, adorable, and funny! Selznick's always incredible illustrations combined with husband David Serlin's cute little stories about a baby monkey PI. Serlin uses a pattern for each story, so that by the end kids will make assumptions, but then the last story has a twist. Selznick changes objects in Baby Monkey's office to match the story, and includes a key in the back, which on its own is informative and educational.

Kids will love this. Beginning readers will gravitate towards it.

If you've ever looked for a combo of picture book, easy reader, chapter book, graphic novel, humor-mystery, this is your book. It's almost too many things, but the experience of reading it with my four-and-a-half year old was definitely five stars.

The text is super simple and repetitive. The illustrations are almost colorless, but very detailed. As in other books by Selznick, the text and illustrations both carry a lot of story weight.

Crowning moment of the whole thing: when my child took the book to bed and proceeded to "read" it again, picking up on some of the words and thoroughly enjoying the pictures. Baby Monkey, I dub thee a success.

{My thoughts} – This is by far one of the cutest beginner reader and chapter books I have come across. It’s got the needed repetitive words to help young readers learn and visualize what they have been reading over and over throughout the pages.

The illustrations match the words within the pages perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and flipping through the pages of this book.

It is a well thought out beginner reader that I believe had the potential to pull young readers into the pages.

I recommend this book for any beginner readers as it has the potential to help them become bookworms in the future. Also, let’s not forget it’s about a baby monkey!!! Who doesn’t want to read about a baby monkey?!?!

My 8 year old read this book to my 4 year old tonight and the younger one declared “I love this book!” It’s a big thick book that they could get through in one sitting because it is filled with wonderful illustrations.

As a cat mom who frequently and unapologetically calls my little one "Monkey," I have to say I almost squealed in the library when I saw this book on display. I quickly read it and had a significant emotional response with the final story. (I need that Mommy's Little Monkey needlepoint!)
Let me just bring this home so I can read it to my own Baby Monkey...
