I need to clarify my rating. I rated this four stars for what it's supposed to be: a crime, mystery, thriller novel. I think it's a damn good one at that, too.

I don't think that it convinced me that Jesus had a son, or that Mary Magdalene and him were married, or anything like that. I don't think it changed the face of religion in the world as we know it.

I DO think that it was extremely interesting and a teeny bit eye-opening, just in the respect that it gets you thinking about these things and the possibility that the Church could be stuff that it's not supposed to be--which some Catholics certainly don't realize.

SO: four stars because I loved reading it and it drew me in to find out what happened in the end. Not five stars, because it didn't live up to the "enlightening" claims and such.

I chose three stars, because the book was entertaining enough to keep reading. However, it is full of errors (for example, the author states that there are no cups on the table of the famous painting of the last supper, when there are actually several) and I found the cyphers extremely easy to decode. Of course, I do love cyphers and I have lots of practice at solving them.

With the publishing of this book and the hit movie based upon it, I fear that many people will believe the false history and fictional attributes of landmarks that are depicted in The Da Vinci Code. Hopefully, though, it will lead more people to investigate and learn about the history and themes behind this work.

I really like the Robert Langdon series. I love the treasure hunt aspect, the mystery, & the history all mixed into one.

I think I burned through this in a week (yes that's burning through a book for me) before the movie came out. Loved the book but was bored by the movie - that's why I try to see the movie first so I can enjoy as much as I can from it. It just did it backwards this time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I had seen the movie when it first came out years ago but hadnt read the book so I decided to give the book a try now since it had been so long I couldn't remember what happened. I found myself engaged in solving the mystery as much as the main characters and it stayed captivating right down to the very last page. I look forward to giving another Dan Brown book a try soon!
