Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an egalley in exchange for an honest review.

First, I just love the name Fable it sounds so sweet and mystical a name fitting for someone of great destiny. As for the story it was magnificent Adrienne set the table nicely by giving me little samples for what is to come in the next book. By giving me what I needed instead of what I might have wanted. Every character stand on their own in way that I could follow any of their story including Koy. Nobody is just a foot note they all have a defining present in Fable’s story even characters we have not even meet yet.

Saint and Isolde, I desire to know their story so badly the way Adrienne just drops little gems about Fable’s parents’ history. I am ready for the novella/prequel of how they came to be. Anytime they are talked about or how Fable reminisced about the small moments that they shared together I just wanted to know them. Also, I want to get a little POV from Saint to grasp how he truly feel about Fable and her mother and how he became the beholden man of great and dangerous power.

Fable is just such a down to earth girl who is navigating through her world with such strength and poise. I love how she handles making mistakes by owning them and then learning from them. She never crumbles under her short comings; she honors the code of her lifestyle that her father has installed in her with such determination to be his equal. At the heart of this book is a father/daughter love story of having to forsaken what you treasure dearly and keeping it buried or you will be buried in returned.

Adrienne Young is just getting better and better with each new book releases that I am just enjoying and appreciating her she styles of writing as well as her she conveys these mythologies and genre in way that is unpredictable. It is very refreshing to read a book with no preconceived notion of how it will play out. Young does more showing than telling with her stories she gives you just enough to keep you engaged as you journey along with these fascinating characters. Always making a reader wanting for more.

You know, this was a fun book to read, with the highlight being the setting! I loved the beach/ ocean/ pirate element that the author went for! Young did a wonderful job immersing the reader while making sure that everything “Pirate-ty” was being explained (Heaven knows I don’t know the first thing about sailing the seven seas!).

But also, I did want to note, that I felt like I had read this story before- just with a different title, setting, and character names.

Within the first few pages I had a sense of what was going to happen. Abandoned girl looking to prove herself has a specific goal in mind. Along the way she meets a distant-brooding- attractive male who happens to be her same age. When said girl finally reaches her goals it’s not what she expected and she realized that the path she is actually suppose to take is with with the attractive boy.

Again, I don’t mean to diss on this book, I enjoyed Adrienne Young’s writing style as well as the beautiful setting she created- but I did feel like I had read this story a million other times.

If you’re looking for a fun, short, easy read I would highly recommend! I did enjoy my time with this book!

P.S. where can I find myself an attractive boy who will kiss me underwater

A surprising discovery I've made over this past week is that I rather enjoy sailing and piratey stories (just finished the Daughter of the Pirate King duology and moved on to Fable). Overall, I enjoyed the book and the characters and loved the dredging part of it, but sometimes I felt a little lost regarding worldbuilding. It was one of those reads where it didn't quite suck me in to where I couldn't stop but it was also intriguing enough to make me finish the book. I'm not quite sure if I'll continue on with the second book, but we shall see!

Overall, I recommend giving it a go!

I liked this book a lot! It was able to keep me interested throughout, something many books aren’t able to do. The main characters are all very likeable, especially Fable. I don’t read many books about the sea, or sailing, so this was a refreshing change of pace.

This book definitely wasn’t what I thought it would be. I assumed most (if not all) of the story would take place on Jeval, the island she’s stuck on in the beginning. Surprise! She gets herself off pretty quick and goes on a little sailing adventure across The Narrows.

I liked the incorporation of gems and their values into the story. I’ve always liked gems and precious stones, so it made things more interesting in that department too.

My only wish is that I had the second book! It seems I’ll have to wait to find out what happens with Fable and her new, found family.

I enjoyed this. I feel like most of the book was setting up the world and the next book.
