Not at all what I was expecting from reading the description... I mean yes it had the jock and the geek, but I didn't realize how short it was, and I thought that it would be more a second chance story, that they'd go off in their own directions, Jordy would become a big time comic artist, and Owen would show up at some big nerd convention, like Comic-Con, and then they'd have their HEA. Totally not what happened, but I loved it anyway. I love the GFY and friends to lovers tropes, and this book had both. I love the build-up to that moment you know the straight guy is gonna go ahead and mess around with the gay guy cuz he just can't help himself, and that twinge in your chest after they mess around when the straight guy brushes off the gay guy telling him he's not gay, and you totally feel for the gay guy and want to cry yourself. I love when the "straight" guy has that AHA moment and goes back to get his man. This book had everything I love, and I will definitely be reading more by this author.

Amazing! I don't know why I haven't read this before now. This book hit all my squishy buttons. When Jordan told Owen he had to get away from him my heart broke for him, I wanted to cry.

I listened to this on audiobook and quickly went out and bought the Kindle version so I could look up and highlight a passage that I want to remember:

"No matter what you do with your life during the day, there's always that moment when you have to wake up with yourself, with yourself and the person that's sleeping beside you. That's the person that you make a home with, discuss life's big decisions with, share your finances, eat, shop, maybe parent with. That's the person you share your body with forever, kiss, touch, the one you sit on the couch with and watch movies, the one who gives you a hug when you've had a rough day. That's the person you put up a Christmas tree with and arrive home with for the holidays, the person you watch grow old and who still loves you when you're not as nice to look at, the one who holds your had when you're dying. And none of that had anything to do with wrestling."

So back to the audio version. Tristan Wright did an excellent job narrating this. His voice was exactly right for the young characters. He portrayed each with enough clarity that I was able to tell who was talking. I felt the emotions of the characters. Told in first person, Tristan talked to me. I didn't get the feeling that he was reading a book. It was more like he was telling me about an event that he had experienced himself. Even before I was finished, I was checking to see what other audio books he has narrated. I was disappointed to not find any, but will definitely be keeping an eye on him in the future.

Besides the few moments where I wanted to cry, I think I just smiled the whole time I listened to this book. It was just amazing.

This is just CUTE. My heartstrings were tugged at times, but no major angst. These boys were hot together, despite the lack of penetrative sex, and their friendship was rock-solid all along, well before they were together romantically. I loved Owen’s paper he drew to decide which path in life he should take and what was truly important to him.

the story is cute, i just think it's very weird writing and reading explicit s** scenes of underage boys.. (but the book is already 10 years old, so hopefully the author wouldn't do that anymore today)

A lot of it was really cute (that's why I like friends-to-lovers, they always treat each other well because they like and care for each other--how novel!), but there were some decisions that I didn't vibe with and I can't even really tell you why (mostly glossing over major points in their lives that I'd have like to seen written down). 2.5 stars.

3,5 Stars rounded up because of the amount of cuteness.

One word that describes this book in its entirety: Adorable.

Owen ended up being my favourite character. Yes, he was kind of an idiot as he continued to hurt Jordy with his girlfriend. BUT At least he didn’t try to explain away the moments they shared as not being “really gay”.
SpoilerOnce he was confronted with the terrifying real possibility of losing Jordy forever and having to choose between his career and Jordy - he fucking manned up and chose him. It went a bit fast, but then again that kind of attitude showed tenacity and commitment. He’s the kind of guy that once he has an idea in his mind… He won’t let go. Luckily for all of us, Jordy was a bit more practical and got Owen to actually see if his career as doomed as he thought it to be.

Ugh... Feels.

I read this book 2 months ago, and the review above is what I wrote immediately after... I stand by what I wrote, because they're amazing together

Owen FTW <3

This was a significantly shorter read than I'd been expecting. I was a fan of one of the author's Christmas themed books a couple of years ago and spinning the roulette wheel of books to read, Superhero came up. It's been a couple of weeks since I read it so the details aren't fresh in my mind, but what sticks out to me from this one is that the potential downsides to the characters being a couple were well realized. People would be upset, unkind, even violent, and in the end, it would work out. The messaging was strong.

Edit for November 20, 2023

I bumped this up to five stars for my re-read. I agree with everything I said the first time, that the real world being messy was fully acknowledged here. As a short story, this one packed it in, but hit all the right moments.

This book was so great, sweet and tissue worthy at some parts. Owen was one of a kind and just so loyal, strong and had such integrity at such an young age it was great to see and I loved how he always had Jordan's back no matter what. I really liked Jordan too they were both great. They were each other's other half even if it took awhile to figure it out. There's so much that goes on in the book that I can't explain it all. It just worked for me and I know sometimes people don't like females in their m/m but I have to say Emily was really great in here. Don't let that stop you from reading this great book. I loved the cover also. This is my first time reading a book by Eli Easton and it won't be my last. I love discovering new authors(that are new to me)
